{"id":469572,"date":"2025-03-13T17:38:35","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T17:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=469572"},"modified":"2025-03-13T17:38:35","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T17:38:35","slug":"aave-unveils-horizon-merging-real-world-assets-with-defi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/aave-unveils-horizon-merging-real-world-assets-with-defi\/","title":{"rendered":"Aave unveils horizon, merging real-world assets with DeFi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/aave\/\">Aave<\/a> Labs has launched a new initiative called Horizon, which aims to enhance the integration of institutional Real-World Assets (RWAs) into DeFi.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/avara.xyz\/blog\/horizon\"> Announced<\/a> on March 13, the project seeks to bridge DeFi's open financial ecosystem with the structured needs of institutional asset issuers, creating a framework that encourages broader participation in on-chain finance.<\/p>\n<h2>Project Horizon<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"431\" data-end=\"703\">Project Horizon is designed to align with institutional compliance requirements while preserving DeFi's efficiency and transparency. The initiative introduces a structured pathway for institutions and tokenization platforms to leverage decentralized finance securely.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"969\">One of its core features allows institutions to use tokenized money market funds (MMFs) as collateral when borrowing stablecoins like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/gho\/\">GHO<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/usd-coin\/\">USDC<\/a>. Future plans include expanding to other forms of RWAs and further enhancing institutional access to DeFi liquidity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1641\">Aave Labs' CEO, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/stani-kulechov\/\">Stani Kulechov<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StaniKulechov\/status\/1900187568131514760\">highlighted<\/a> that DeFi lacks the necessary infrastructure for large-scale institutional participation. He emphasized that Project Horizon builds upon lessons from Aave Arc, improving institutional access to permissionless stablecoin liquidity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"2024\">To support this initiative, Aave has <a href=\"https:\/\/governance.aave.com\/t\/temp-check-building-horizon-s-rwa-product-an-aave-licensed-instance-for-institutions\/21384\">proposed<\/a> launching a licensed instance of the Aave Protocol through the Aave DAO.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"2024\">This proposal will be the foundation for all projects under the Horizon initiative. Horizon's RWA solution will initially operate under Aave V3 as a licensed instance, eventually transitioning to a custom Aave V4 deployment when available.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2026\" data-end=\"2255\">Horizon will implement a profit-sharing mechanism for long-term sustainability, allocating 50% of its first-year revenue to the Aave DAO. Additional incentives will also be introduced to drive further ecosystem adoption.<\/p>\n<h2>RWA growth<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2307\" data-end=\"2621\">Aave Labs' expansion into RWAs comes amid significant growth in the sector.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2307\" data-end=\"2621\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app.rwa.xyz\/\">Data<\/a> from RWA.xyz indicates that the total value of on-chain RWAs has surged 17.51% over the past month, reaching $18.13 billion. The number of unique asset holders has also climbed 5%, surpassing 89,818.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2623\" data-end=\"2920\">A key expansion area has been on-chain treasuries, which now account for a TVL of $4.22 billion, reflecting a 400% year-over-year increase. Analysts predict the RWA market could scale to $16 trillion over the next decade, highlighting its growing role in global finance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2922\" data-end=\"3267\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Recognizing this trend, major institutions such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/blackrock\/\">BlackRock\u00a0<\/a>have already issued substantial tokenized assets through its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/exploring-blackrocks-buidl-fund-bridging-traditional-finance-and-defi\/\">BUIDL product.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aave Labs has launched a new initiative called Horizon, which aims to enhance the integration of institutional Real-World Assets (RWAs) into DeFi.
