He emphasized that Polymarket operates as a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/polymarket-can-serve-as-an-effective-source-of-information-buterin-says\/\">non-partisan platform<\/a>, offering value during the recent election season.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/shayne_coplan\/status\/1856838409861386722\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It\u2019s discouraging that the current administration would seek a last-ditch effort to go after companies they deem to be associated with political opponents. We are deeply committed to being non-partisan, and today is no different.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"s3\">Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, gained <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/polymarkets-accurate-forecast-of-trump-win-highlights-gaps-in-mainstream-media-pollsters\/\">significant traction<\/a> in the lead-up to the Nov. 5 US presidential election. However, the platform faced heightened scrutiny as Election Day approached, as some accused it of manipulating <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/less-than-5-million-could-change-the-leader-in-the-us-election-race-on-polymarket\/\">data<\/a> in favor of President-elect Donald Trump\u2014a claim the company has firmly denied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><em>[<strong>Editor's Note: <\/strong>CryptoSlate analysis found <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/new-whale-makes-12-million-high-frequency-trump-bets-on-polymarket-in-3-days\/\">no evidence<\/a> of fraud; it appears to have simply been free markets operating without strict oversight. While it is possible Trump bets were coordinated from a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/french-trader-netted-79-million-on-donald-trump-wagers-on-polymarket\/\">single entity<\/a>, that in itself is far from evidence of manipulation, simply a large whale of some form.<\/em> ]<\/p>\n<p>Coplan, however, noted that the election might have played out differently had the administration adopted a more business-friendly, pro-innovation approach. He wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The incumbents should do some self-reflecting and recognize that taking a more pro-business, pro-startup approach may be what would have changed their fate this election.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Industry reaction<\/h2>\n<p>Prominent figures in the crypto sector have voiced their concerns, echoing Coplan's views on the administration's treatment of the industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/brian-armstrong\/\">Brian Armstrong<\/a> criticized the raid on Coplan's apartment in a now-deleted post, hinting at potential political motives. He later commented that such actions poorly reflect the government's approach to new industries.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/jesse-powell\/\">Jesse Powell<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/kraken\/\">Kraken's<\/a> co-founder, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jespow\/status\/1856891151875268974?s=46&t=aw6ZR-6aD050XLPVXY8AQA\">pointed out<\/a> that the search warrant likely invoked a criminal statute that allows authorities to retain seized devices for up to five years without charges.<\/p>\n<p>Powell described this as an &#8220;insanely abusive&#8221; practice in today's digital landscape, where authorities &#8220;claim any device might hold evidence of a crime, so they take everything.&#8221; He further suggested that Coplan might remain uninformed about the investigation's full extent or potential additional surveillance orders.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Blockchain Association CEO Kristin Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KMSmithDC\/status\/1856828834655457442\">called<\/a> Polymarket an innovative application that enables real-time event betting on a transparent blockchain.
