We deeply appreciate those who helped us get here and for their many contributions, and we will support them during this transition.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mike Isaac, a tech journalist at the New York Times, reported that two people familiar with the matter said the layoff <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeIsaac\/status\/1851680598534033815\">impacted<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 15% of Kraken's workforce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kraken's last round of layoffs occurred in November 2022, when the exchange <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kraken.com\/news\/business-update\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">l<strong>aid off<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 1,100 employees, equivalent to 30% of its workforce.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Organizational efforts<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the announcement, the structural changes aim to reduce bureaucracy, eliminate managerial layers, and renew the emphasis on product innovation, data-driven decision-making, and accountability across its engineering, product, and design teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exchange detailed that its path beyond $1 billion in revenue had inadvertently created management silos, with departments operating in isolation under separate profit and loss frameworks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, Kraken emphasized the need to reduce these &#8220;organizational layers,&#8221; ensuring that top contributors are focused on building and innovating rather than managing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Kraken noted that the reshaped structure will be &#8220;leaner and faster&#8221; and enable more nimble, client-centered decisions. It will also empower leaders to enhance the company's global crypto offerings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The exchange claimed it remains committed to driving global crypto adoption despite the layoffs, positioning itself as a bridge between traditional finance and the digital world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The layoffs come less than a week after the exchange <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-eyes-defi-expansion-with-launch-of-ink-its-new-ethereum-layer-2-network\/\">announced<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a>-based layer-2 blockchain Ink. The network will tap Optimism's infrastructure technology due to a 25 million <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/optimism\/\">OP<\/a> tokens <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/optimism-foundation-offered-25m-op-tokens-to-attract-krakens-l2-to-the-superchain\/\">deal with the Optimism Foundation<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, that is the third layoff round among crypto companies this week.
