{"id":449953,"date":"2024-10-24T20:30:22","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T19:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=449953"},"modified":"2024-10-24T20:30:22","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T19:30:22","slug":"ripple-ceo-optimistic-about-crypto-post-election-regardless-of-outcome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-ceo-optimistic-about-crypto-post-election-regardless-of-outcome\/","title":{"rendered":"Ripple CEO optimistic about crypto post-election, regardless of outcome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\/\">Ripple Labs<\/a> CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/brad-garlinghouse\/\">Brad Garlinghouse<\/a> believes the US will become more crypto-friendly regardless of which political party wins the upcoming election, CNBC reported on Oct. 24.<\/p>\n<p>Garlinghouse said during DC Fintech Week:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is the most important election we\u2019ve had, but I also believe no matter what happens, we\u2019re going to have a more pro-crypto, more pro-innovation Congress than we\u2019ve ever had.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the optimism, he advised startups to &#8220;incorporate outside the US&#8221; and said that roughly 95% of Ripple's business now takes place outside the country.<\/p>\n<p>Ripple is one of the crypto firms under the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) scrutiny. In December 2020, the SEC filed a lawsuit accusing the company of offering unregistered securities through its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a> token.<\/p>\n<p>A July 2023 partial summary judgment <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/judge-ends-ripple-sec-lawsuit-with-125-million-fine-xrp-surges-12\/\">ruled<\/a> that Ripple\u2019s sales of XRP to institutional investors configured investment contracts, violating securities laws as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the court understood that Ripple\u2019s programmatic sales and other distributions of XRP did not meet the criteria for investment contracts under the Supreme Court\u2019s Howey test and, thus, did not represent securities offerings.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, both the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-execs-slam-sec-decision-to-appeal-xrp-ruling\/\">SEC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-files-notice-for-cross-appeal-in-ongoing-sec-clash-over-xrp\/\">Ripple<\/a> filed notices of appeal to the court.<\/p>\n<h2>A &#8216;speed bump'<\/h2>\n<p>Garlinghouse also believes that the current shaky regulatory environment for crypto in the US will be seen as a &#8220;speed bump&#8221; in the future. He added that anyone doubting the industry's eventual growth &#8220;is not paying attention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Garlinghouse is also confident about the coming political \u201creset,\u201d regardless of the election outcome, as both parties have shown increased openness to crypto.<\/p>\n<p>Although Garlinghouse hasn't officially endorsed a presidential candidate, he noted that former President <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> has been openly pro-crypto, while Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/kamala-harris\/\">Kamala Harris'<\/a> stance has been more nuanced but constructive, particularly in recent statements.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTrump came out early and aggressively in a pro-crypto way and said he\u2019s the crypto president. Team Harris has been more nuanced, but they had some of the most constructive things they\u2019ve said publicly this week.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, he highlighted that Harris' background in Silicon Valley makes her a technology supporter despite her silence on crypto. Despite not backing a presidential candidate, Garlinghouse <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripples-brad-garlinghouse-joins-crypto-leaders-in-backing-john-deaton-over-elizabeth-warren\/\">recently endorsed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/john-deaton\/\">John Deaton<\/a>, an attorney challenging Senator <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/elizabeth-warren\/\">Elizabeth Warren<\/a> (D-Mass.), a vocal critic of the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>Garlinghouse also cited the significant contributions Ripple has made to pro-crypto political action committees, including a $45 million donation to the Fairshake PAC. Ripple co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/chris-larsen\/\">Chris Larsen<\/a> recently <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-commits-to-company-bipartisanship-as-co-founder-donates-10-million-xrp-to-kamala-harris\/\">contributed<\/a> $11 million to Harris' campaign.<\/p>\n<h2>Political reset<\/h2>\n<p>Albeit optimistic about a potential Harris term, Garlinghouse criticized the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/joe-biden\/\">Biden<\/a> administration for the current hostile environment for crypto businesses, citing actions by the SEC, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThat is a hostile administration. No matter what happens in this next election, we will have a reset.
