According to the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ripple.com\/insights\/a-new-era-of-stablecoins-ripple-usd-begins-testing-on-the-xrp-ledger-mainnet\/\">announcement<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ripple wants to bring \u201chigh-quality assets to the XRPL,\u201d enhancing liquidity and institutional use cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RLUSD is currently unavailable for purchase or trading as it undergoes testing by Ripple's enterprise partners. The company warns users to be cautious of potential scams exploiting the Ripple brand during this phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the announcement:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThis phase is crucial for ensuring that the stablecoin meets the highest standards of security, efficiency, and reliability before it becomes widely available, and after receipt of regulatory approval.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, Ripple wants to integrate RLUSD and XRP into its cross-border payments solution once the stablecoin becomes available, as well as expand the usage of RLUSD to DeFi protocols.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RLUSD maintains a 1:1 value with the US dollar, backed by US dollar deposits, short-term US government treasuries, and cash equivalents. Ripple commits to monthly attestations and third-party audits of reserve assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company has provided contact addresses for the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/livenet.xrpl.org\/accounts\/rMxCKbEDwqr76QuheSUMdEGf4B9xJ8m5De\/transactions\">XRPL Explorer<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/address\/0xcfd748b9de538c9f5b1805e8db9e1d4671f7f2ec\">Ethereum token<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contracts, facilitating transparency during the testing phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tailwinds of a court win<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Aug. 7, District Judge Analisa Torres from the District Court of the Southern District of New York <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/judge-ends-ripple-sec-lawsuit-with-125-million-fine-xrp-surges-12\/\">partially rejected<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the SEC's motion for remedies in their lawsuit against Ripple filed in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In July 2023, the judge found that Ripple\u2019s institutional sales of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a> constituted investment contracts and, therefore, violated securities laws. However, their programmatic sales to retail weren\u2019t considered distribution of unregistered securities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, the SEC motion demanded over $2 billion from Ripple as compensation for allegedly selling XRP as an unregistered security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Torres maintained her decision and ruled that Ripple pay a $125 million fine for 1,278 transactions that violated Section 5 of the Securities Act of 1933 (the \u201cSecurities Act\u201d), 15 U.S.C. \u00a777e(a),(c).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, the lawsuit was concluded, and XRP was not considered a security under US law.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ripple has initiated beta testing of its USD-backed stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum mainnet.
