Utilizing the Ethereum network, BUIDL invests in cash, short-term debt securities, and U.S. Treasury bonds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The launch of BlackRock's BUIDL fund excited many in the industry because it showcases how traditional financial instruments can integrate with the innovative capabilities of DeFi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, BlackRock is not the first to explore this technology. Other notable firms have also made significant strides in this area. For instance, Abrdn, a major UK asset manager, launched a tokenized version of its \u00a315 billion Lux Sterling money market fund on the Hedera Hashgraph DLT in June 2023 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledgerinsights.com\/abrdn-tokenize-money-market-fund-hedera\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Ledger Insights<\/span><\/a>)\u200b.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Similarly, Hamilton Lane, another investment manager, opened a tokenized feeder fund on the Polygon blockchain in early 2023. This fund allows individual investors to access private equity with significantly reduced minimum investment requirements compared to traditional versions (<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/currencies\/investment-manager-hamilton-lane-opens-first-tokenized-fund-with-securitize-1032054200\"><span class=\"s1\">markets.businessinsider.com<\/span><\/a>)\u200b.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Numerous examples from the blockchain industry have contributed to a growing niche ecosystem within the larger blockchain industry called \u201cReal-world Assets,\u201d or RWAs.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><b>Real-World Assets in Crypto<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/rwa\">Real-world Assets (RWA)<\/a> have emerged as one of the most significant areas of focus in the blockchain industry this year. Projects in this space aim to channel yield and assets from the traditional economy into the digital space. As a result, the total value locked (TVL) in RWA protocols <a href=\"https:\/\/app.intotheblock.com\/perspectives\/rwa_ecosystem\"><span class=\"s1\">soared to over $2.9 billion<\/span><\/a>. Top protocols in the RWA ecosystem now count over 194,000 RWA protocol token holders between them, reflecting its rapid adoption and growing influence.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><b>Development and Growth of the BUIDL Fund<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">The structure of BlackRock's BUIDL fund is designed to cater to institutional investors, requiring a minimum investment of $5 million per entity.
