{"id":413587,"date":"2024-04-19T22:29:41","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T21:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=413587"},"modified":"2024-04-19T22:29:41","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T21:29:41","slug":"hong-kong-based-hashkey-to-cease-binance-related-transactions-amid-policy-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hong-kong-based-hashkey-to-cease-binance-related-transactions-amid-policy-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong-based HashKey to cease Binance-related transactions amid policy change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/hashkey-capital\/\">HashKey<\/a> said it would end support for <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a>-related transactions next month.<\/p>\n<p>In an April 19 <a href=\"https:\/\/support.hashkey.com\/hc\/en-gb\/articles\/31422460616473-Notify-users-Cessation-of-VA-transfers-with-Binance-hosted-wallet-address-es\">statement<\/a>, the Hong Kong-based crypto trading platform stated that it would restrict deposits from Binance starting May 10 and end support for virtual asset withdrawals to Binance-hosted wallet addresses by May 17.<\/p>\n<p>However, transactions involving virtual assets to whitelisted unhosted wallet addresses will remain unaffected. These addresses are verified and authenticated by the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>HashKey attributed its decision to &#8220;a change in its policy&#8221; but did not provide additional details about the new rules.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2023, HashKey <a href=\"https:\/\/support.hashkey.com\/hc\/en-gb\/articles\/26473664750489-HashKey-Exchange-Virtual-Assets-Deposit-Guidelines-General\">terminated<\/a> support for crypto deposits from all third-party exchanges except Binance. At the time, the exchange announced it would only accept deposits exceeding 8,000 HKD from Binance, subject to specific guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>HashKey Exchange is one of the few licensed exchanges in Hong Kong and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hashkey-exchange-set-to-debut-retail-crypto-trading-services-in-hong-kong-on-aug-28\/\">caters\u00a0<\/a>to both institutional and retail investors.<\/p>\n<h2>Binance regulatory woes<\/h2>\n<p class=\"s3\">HashKey's decision further compounds Binance's <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binances-changpeng-zhao-pleads-guilty-to-money-laundering-comments-on-resignation\/\">woes<\/a> across various legal jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, an entity linked to the Richard Teng-crypto trading platform in Hong Kong, HKVAEX, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-backed-hkvaex-shuts-down-gives-users-30-days-to-withdraw-amid-hong-kong-regulatory-tightening\/\">abruptly closed operations<\/a> and withdrew its application for licensing.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the drama, the Nigerian authorities detained two executives from the platform and accused the exchange of exacerbating its foreign exchange challenges.<\/p>\n<p>However, Binance has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-enhances-safu-fund-stability-through-usdc-amid-regulatory-progress-in-dubai-and-india\/\">adopted<\/a> a compliance-first approach and made significant strides in its regulatory push, particularly in India and Dubai.<\/p>\n<h2>HashKey's advancements<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past month, HashKey has made notable advancements in its operations.<\/p>\n<p>On April 15, HashKey Capital said it received regulatory clearance to co-launch a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) with Bosera International.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the platform told <em>CryptoSlate<\/em> that the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) approved upgrading its existing License 9 to enable it to offer virtual asset fund product services to retail investors.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, the firm had unveiled a global crypto trading platform that received licensing in Bermuda to provide digital asset trading services.
