This purchase amplified Tether's total Bitcoin holdings to approximately 75,354 BTC, valued at $5.23 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The purchase places it directly above a wallet tagged as a <a href=\"https:\/\/platform.arkhamintelligence.com\/explorer\/address\/3E97AjYaCq9QYnfFMtBCYiCEsN956Rvpj2\">Binance cold wallet<\/a> by Arkham Intelligence, which holds 75,117 BTC worth $5.22 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Tether now owns 0.3% of the flagship digital asset's total circulating supply.<\/p>\n<h2>Tether's BTC purchases<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past year, Tether has rapidly augmented its Bitcoin holdings through several quarterly purchases.<\/p>\n<p>The company said its purchases are part of efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tether-plans-500m-investment-into-bitcoin-mining-operations\/\">diversify its reserves<\/a>, which include a substantial amount of gold, cash equivalents, and other short-term deposits.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the recent acquisition arrives at a time of heightened institutional interest in the flagship digital asset. The surge in demand for BTC has been particularly notable since the year's outset, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/bitcoin-etfs-garner-over-12-billion-in-net-inflows\/\">fueled by the several spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs)<\/a> in the United States and the impending <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/expected-decline-in-prenultimate-bitcoin-difficulty-adjustment-before-the-halving\/\">Bitcoin halving event<\/a>, poised to slash the asset's inflationary rate substantially.<\/p>\n<h2>USDT dominance<\/h2>\n<p>Tether's USDT remains the dominant stablecoin in the crypto industry, controlling 69% of the market with its circulating supply of $104 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its prominent position, Tether continues to face persistent <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/us-uk-initiate-joint-probe-into-20-billion-moved-via-crypto-to-evade-russian-sanctions\/\">regulatory hurdles<\/a>. Recent reports indicate that US and UK authorities are investigating crypto transactions involving $20 billion USDT facilitated through a Russian exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, due to regulatory constraints, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/okx\/\">OKX<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/okx-removes-usdt-pairs-in-europe-as-new-stablecoin-regulations-loom\/\">delisted<\/a> the digital asset for its European clients.
