{"id":387854,"date":"2024-01-10T11:30:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T11:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=387854"},"modified":"2024-01-10T11:11:06","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T11:11:06","slug":"binance-confirms-apple-india-app-store-exchange-removal-amid-regulatory-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-confirms-apple-india-app-store-exchange-removal-amid-regulatory-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Binance confirms Apple India App Store exchange removal amid regulatory concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto exchange Binance confirmed that its application and several foreign-based exchange applications have been removed from Apple's Indian App Store.<\/p>\n<p>Binance South Asia <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BinanceDesi\/status\/1744995162957513194\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">We are aware of new changes that have been introduced regarding crypto exchanges on the iOS App Store in India, impacting the Binance App. The ongoing situation is not unique to <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">Binance a<\/span><span class=\"css-1qaijid r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">nd we remain committed to complying with local regulations and maintaining dialogue with regulators worldwide to ensure the continued availability of our services.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the firm assured its existing app users that they were unaffected and would work with the regulators to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Social media reports further <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/simplykashif\/status\/1744946236858171863?s=20\">revealed<\/a> that the other impacted exchanges include Kraken, MEXC Global, HTX (formerly Huobi), and Gate.io.<\/p>\n<p>Removing these crypto-related applications from the App Store is consistent with Apple's <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/apple-threatens-to-remove-damus-from-app-store-over-bitcoin-lightning-payments\/\">stringent <\/a>stance on crypto. In 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-wallet-says-apple-requested-30-of-all-nft-transfer-gas-fees\/\">Coinbase Wallet<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/trustapp\/comments\/tjv5zb\/trust_wallet_is_unavailable_on_play_store_heres\/?rdt=64581\">Trust Wallet<\/a> were both briefly unavailable in the store before being reinstated. Uniswap also reported difficulty obtaining a listing on Apple's App Store before <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/uniswap-wallet-launches-on-apples-ios-app-store-following-earlier-troubles\/\">April 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Why were they removed?<\/h2>\n<p>Ashish Singhal, the co-founder and chief executive of local crypto exchange platform CoinSwitch, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ashish343\/status\/1744951220098551866\">attributed<\/a> the removal to India's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) show cause <a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1991372\">notice<\/a> sent to several offshore crypto trading platforms last December.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the FIU cited these crypto firms' non-compliance with the country's Prevention of Money Laundering (PML) Act and lamented that &#8220;several offshore entities, though catering to a substantial part of Indian users, were not getting registered&#8221; under the necessary regulatory frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the regulator told the Asian country's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to block these firms' URLs.<\/p>\n<p>However, Singhal advised the impacted exchanges to comply with local regulations to ensure that their Indian users are adequately protected.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Offshore exchanges should actively consider registering with the FIU-IND and comply with India's AML and CFT measures.
