{"id":378478,"date":"2023-12-01T11:25:14","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T11:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=378478"},"modified":"2023-12-01T11:13:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-01T11:13:14","slug":"tether-circulating-supply-increased-by-4-billion-usdt-in-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tether-circulating-supply-increased-by-4-billion-usdt-in-november\/","title":{"rendered":"Tether&#8217;s circulating supply increased by 4.5 billion USDT in November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The circulating supply of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/tether\/\">Tether's<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tether\/\">USDT<\/a> increased by 4.5 billion in November amid growing market optimism for a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).<\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">Blockchain intelligence platform Arkham <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ArkhamIntel\/status\/1729504677769687400?s=20\">confirmed<\/a> this in a Nov. 28 post<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> on X, noting that around <\/span><span class=\"s4\">$3 billion worth of USDT was minted on the Tron network. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">Notably, a Kraken deposit address, &#8220;TQef1,&#8221; minted <\/span><span class=\"s4\">$2.5 billion of the stablecoin during the period.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"s8\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">USDT's growth<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Data from CryptoSlate shows that USDT's supply has surged by around 35% since the beginning of the year to an all-time high of 89.35 billion as of press time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">During the past year, Tether has enjoyed enormous growth largely due to the struggles of its rivals like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/contagion-from-svbs-collapse-highlights-need-for-banking-system-resilience-says-fed-official\/\">Circle's USD Coin (USDC)<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-processes-1b-withdrawals-amid-regulatory-scrutiny-on-busd\/\">Binance-backed BUSD stablecoin.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>These issues have propelled USDT's dominance over the stablecoin market to around 70%. More than 50% of Tether's total supply is minted on Tron (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tron\/\">TRX<\/a>), while around 41% of its supply sits on Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>), according to <a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/stablecoin\/tether\">data from DeFi Llama<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, market observers have suggested that Tether's <span class=\"s4\">growing supply signals increased buying power on cryptocurrency exchanges. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-to-fly-past-40000-in-december-despite-binance-scandal-matrixport-predicts\/\">note<\/a> to investors, Markus Thielen, the head of research at Matrixport, stated<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the growth indicated that institutional investors could be shifting their fiat into stablecoin to convert them into other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Tether planning growth in other areas<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Outside of its growing circulating supply, Tether's CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/paolo-ardoino\/\">Paolo Ardoino<\/a> hinted that the stablecoin issuer was building new products that would be launched next year as part of its expansion plans into new frontiers, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paoloardoino\/status\/1723766170120073640\">post<\/a> on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>Ardoino confirmed to <em>CryptoSlate <\/em>that the stablecoin issuer was leveraging the same technology that powers its stablecoins to build two disruptive projects on the fintech side. At the same time, the firm was also building products that\u00a0&#8220;could obliterate some popular Web2 centralized services for good.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He told <em>CryptoSlate<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Tether has co-founded and will heavily invest in its peer-to-peer technology called holepunch. It's the first peer-to-peer, non-blockchain-based [tool] that allows for building web services without any central infrastructure.
