{"id":37114,"date":"2018-03-16T17:35:03","date_gmt":"2018-03-17T00:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=37114"},"modified":"2018-03-16T18:29:21","modified_gmt":"2018-03-17T01:29:21","slug":"google-facebook-ad-bans-potentially-influenced-federal-agencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/google-facebook-ad-bans-potentially-influenced-federal-agencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Google and Facebook Ad Bans Potentially Influenced by Federal Agencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Facebook and Google revising their advertising policies so as to effectively put an end to all ICO related ads, it has been brought to light that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) may have had a big role to play in these recent developments.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-37437\" style=\"font-family: 'Roboto Slab', serif; font-size: 24px;\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/manitoba-securities.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" \/>While initially conceived to be an independent decision of the Facebook executive brass, Jason Roy \u2014 a senior investigator at the Manitoba Securities Commission \u2014 made it obvious that it was anything but that.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustnodes.com\/2018\/03\/09\/fbi-pressuring-google-ban-crypto-adverts\">Trustnodes<\/a>, Mr. Roy who also serves as the\u00a0Chairman for Canada\u2019s Binary Options Task Force mentioned that he along with FBI had been asking both Google and Facebook to reconsider their policies towards ICOs and binary options for some months now.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman went on to add that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cWhat happened is that Canada\u2019s Binary Options Task Force, as well as the FBI, explained to Facebook what the concerns were and that these types of ads are leading to people becoming victims. Similar discussions took place with Google and the agency is now waiting for them to take similar action.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>This raises a pertinent question as to why the FBI and Roy are specifically looking to filter out cryptocurrencies when there are clearly hundreds of legitimate alt-assets and ICOs available in the market.<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36959\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36959\" style=\"width: 296px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-36959\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-ico-ban-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-ico-ban-social-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-ico-ban-social-768x403.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-ico-ban-social-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/google-ico-ban-social.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36959\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facebook announced at the end of January that cryptocurrency, ICO and binary option ads are now banned from its platform.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The explanation given is that due to the explosion of the digital currency sector, there have been a lot of cases of people losing their money to fraudulent ICOs and other similar blockchain ventures.
