{"id":354186,"date":"2023-08-31T16:55:01","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T15:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=354186"},"modified":"2023-08-31T15:27:13","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T14:27:13","slug":"swift-successfully-transfers-tokens-across-blockchains-in-landmark-experiment-with-chainlink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/swift-successfully-transfers-tokens-across-blockchains-in-landmark-experiment-with-chainlink\/","title":{"rendered":"Swift successfully transfers tokens across blockchains in landmark experiment with Chainlink"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u00a0Global financial messaging network Swift has announced the successful completion of a tokenization experiment, which involved the transfer of tokens across multiple blockchains.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The interbank messaging infrastructure disclosed this in an Aug. 31 <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swift.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/swift-unlocks-potential-tokenisation-successful-blockchain-experiments\"><span class=\"s5\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">press <\/span><\/span><\/a>release<span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, noting that it collaborated with Chainlink and several financial institutions for the experiments.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Financial institutions that participated in the experiment include BNY Mellon, BNP Paribas, Lloyds Banking Group, Citi, New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Euroclear, and others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Swift connected to Ethereum's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>) Sepolia testnet for the experiment and used Chainlink's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/chainlink\/\">LINK<\/a>) Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to send tokenized assets to the different public and private blockchains.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Beyond showing that financial institutions could use Swift to connect to different blockchains, the experiment also used the interoperability protocol for transferring data securely to other blockchains.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">&#8220;Swift has successfully demonstrated that it can provide a single point of access to multiple networks using existing, secure infrastructure, thereby significantly reducing operational challenges and investment required for institutions to support the development of tokenised assets.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">What does this mean for tokenization?<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Swift described the experiment's success as a significant step for tokenization, noting that the findings could be used to remove the friction that has slowed the growth of the tokenized assets market.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The friction here is the need for interoperability between blockchain networks, which poses a significant operational and investment challenge for institutions. Solving that problem could open the floodgates for institutional adoption of tokenization.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The firm noted that 97% of institutional investors believe tokenization will revolutionize asset management. Results such as this could prove monumental for tokenization to live up to its potential. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Speaking on the experiment, the Chief Innovation Officer at Swift, Tom Zschach, said:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> &#8220;Interoperability is at the heart of everything we are doing at Swift to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s5\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">facilitate the seamless flow of value across the world<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in the face of increasing fragmentation.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The financial institutions participating in the experiment expressed optimism about the success.
