{"id":34222,"date":"2018-03-01T08:54:22","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T16:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=34222"},"modified":"2019-11-07T02:56:18","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T02:56:18","slug":"square-ceo-jack-dorsey-believes-app-will-eventually-just-buy-sell-bitcoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/square-ceo-jack-dorsey-believes-app-will-eventually-just-buy-sell-bitcoin\/","title":{"rendered":"Square CEO Jack Dorsey Believes App Will Eventually Do More Than Just Buy and Sell Bitcoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Square CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/jack-dorsey\/\">Jack Dorsey<\/a> has increased his support for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and said that Square isn\u2019t limited to buying and selling bitcoins but will look to improve on its support as a number of users continues to increase.<\/p>\n<p>Square CEO Jack Dorsey believes there\u2019s more to Bitcoin buying and selling through the Square Cash app. The app started supporting Bitcoin trading in November last year and has since seen a huge spike in the number of users.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15886\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15886\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15886\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/jack-dorsey-square.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/jack-dorsey-square.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/jack-dorsey-square-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15886\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Square CEO Jack Dorsey has spoken publicly about the benefits of cryptocurrency and the blockchain but had never said that Square was building this functionality into the Cash app.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dorsey was quite vocal about Bitcoin\u2019s potential in the company\u2019s fourth-quarter earnings call. He said that it is a technology which has a transformative nature, and one which his company has to understand and incorporate as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest advantage that Bitcoin is that it could get more people to the financial system. It might start from assets, but eventually, it will be through currency. This, he says, is quite important and most necessary, since an estimated 2 billion people all over the world don\u2019t have a bank account.<\/p>\n<p>After opening its doors to Bitcoin in November 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/square-cash-users-can-now-buy-bitcoin-directly-app\/\">Square<\/a> has continued to scale new heights. First, it was able to top the Wall Street\u2019s estimate of $0.0067 per share with $0.8 per share. It was also able to chart higher revenues than the Wall Street estimate, with the figures of $282 million well above what the Wall Street estimated.<\/p>\n<h3>The number of users of Square crossed the 7 million mark, and users spent more than $90 million using the Square Cash debit cards.<\/h3>\n<p>But they know better than to not take this promising return from Bitcoin\u2019s partnership with a pinch of salt.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>If we fail to comply with regulations or prohibitions applicable to us, we could face regulatory or other enforcement actions and potential fines and other consequences. Further, we might not be able to continue operating the feature, at least in current form, and to the extent that the feature is viewed by the market as a valuable asset to Square, the price of our Class A common stock could decrease.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is the statement which the company issued in the same event, explaining that while Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have a lot of good to offer to the common masses, they can also become a symbol of loss and penury if the worst is to come true.<\/p>\n<p>Square continues to enjoy widespread support, although its shares did go down by a meager 1% following this fourth-quarter earnings call. Bitcoin itself has seen a growth of 58% since Square announced its acceptance and support for it.<\/p>\n<p>Although the current price is 43% less than the all-time high of upwards of $19,000, the figure is still impressive. Dorsey said in the announcement that Bitcoin\u2019s impact on their company has been immaterial so far, and the real effects of Bitcoin will only be visible in the coming months.
