{"id":333452,"date":"2023-06-12T21:37:46","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T20:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=333452"},"modified":"2023-06-12T21:45:21","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T20:45:21","slug":"etoro-ending-us-customers-access-to-four-cryptocurrencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/etoro-ending-us-customers-access-to-four-cryptocurrencies\/","title":{"rendered":"eToro ending US customers&#8217; access to four cryptocurrencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stock and crypto trading platform eToro said in a June 12 email shared with CryptoSlate that it would limit access to certain crypto positions for users in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>In its message, eToro said that users based in the U.S. would not be able to open new positions in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/algorand\/\">Algorand<\/a> (ALGO), <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/decentraland\/\">Decentraland<\/a> (MANA), <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/dash\/\">Dash<\/a> (DASH), and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/polygon\/\">Polygon<\/a> (MATIC) after 6:00 a.m. ET on July 12, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>It said that U.S. customers would be able to hold and sell positions in those assets they had already opened. It added that non-U.S. customers would not be affected by the change.<\/p>\n<p>The company cited regulations as the reason for its decision, noting that it has acted due to &#8220;recent developments&#8221; in a &#8220;rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though eToro did not state which regulatory developments are of concern, all four affected cryptos were named in lawsuits that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/market-reports\/how-sec-legal-battles-with-binance-coinbase-could-reshape-crypto\/\">filed against Coinbase and Binance<\/a> beginning on June 5.<\/p>\n<p>Several other cryptos were also named in those cases but were not named in eToro's announcement or were not supported by eToro to begin with.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, eToro is considered a trading platform.
