{"id":331523,"date":"2023-06-06T10:30:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T09:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=331523"},"modified":"2023-07-09T17:16:45","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T16:16:45","slug":"binance-cz-says-sec-lawsuit-is-an-attack-on-the-entire-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-cz-says-sec-lawsuit-is-an-attack-on-the-entire-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Binance CZ says SEC lawsuit is \u2018an attack on the entire industry\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1665769037895221248?s=20\"><span class=\"s4\">described <\/span><\/a>the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission lawsuit against his firm as an attack on the entire crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>On June 5, the SEC filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-and-cz-sued-by-sec-for-breaching-securities-law\/\">lawsuit<\/a> against Binance, and related entities, alleging federal securities law violations placing American investors at risk, including the firm offering of unregistered security tokens in BNB, ADA, and ALGO, among others.<\/p>\n<h2>Binance claims the SEC lawsuit is an overreach<\/h2>\n<p>In a June 5 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/blog\/ecosystem\/sec-complaint-aims-to-unilaterally-define-crypto-market-structure-8707489117122437402\">statement<\/a>, Binance said the SEC's lawsuit is an &#8220;overreach&#8221; because it is not a U.S. exchange. The firm said it stands with &#8220;digital asset market participants in the U.S.&#8221; and is &#8220;prepared to fight [the lawsuit] to the full extent of the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite its cooperation with the regulator, Binance denied the allegations and expressed disappointment at the SEC's actions. It said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The SEC's refusal to productively engage with us is just another example of the Commission's misguided and conscious refusal to provide much-needed clarity and guidance to the digital asset industry.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, the U.S. subsidiary of the embattled exchange, Binance.US, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-us-deems-sec-lawsuit-baseless-plans-to-defend-self\/\">labeled<\/a> the SEC's lawsuit as &#8220;baseless,&#8221; describing it as the latest example of the Commision's regulation-by-enforcement approach towards the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto community backs Binance<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, the lawsuit appears to have united the crypto community, with several prominent figures coming forward in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/trons-justin-sun-cardanos-charles-hoskinson-side-with-binance-in-sec-case\/\">support<\/a> of Binance.<\/p>\n<p>Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson said the lawsuit was &#8220;the next in a series of steps to implement chokepoint 2.0 in the United States.&#8221; Hoskinson noted that this is not a regulatory event but a political, philosophical disagreement about the existence of cryptocurrencies and what they represent.<\/p>\n<p>TRON founder Justin Sun replied to CZ, saying he is &#8220;fully aware of your dedication to advancing the cryptocurrency industry, and your abilities and ethics are beyond reproach.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) described the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission lawsuit against his firm as an attack on the entire crypto industry.
