Some 12 hours later, the token has retained most of its gains, giving up approximately $0.40 on the $2.72 peak.<\/p>\n<h2>The FTX scandal<\/h2>\n<p>In November 2022, rumors that FTX was insolvent were proven true \u2014 leading to the collapse of FTT, and user accounts being frozen.<\/p>\n<p>The weeks that followed uncovered a scandal that has gone down in history as among the worst to have affected the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>The mismanagement of users' funds was at the heart of the matter \u2014 particularly concerning intercompany transactions. It emerged that the exchange had lent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ftx-tapped-into-customer-accounts-to-fund-risky-bets-setting-up-its-downfall-11668093732\">$10 billion<\/a> of users' funds to sister company Alameda Research \u2014 who subsequently squandered the money through risky leveraged trades.<\/p>\n<p>The scandal featured numerous subplots, including Sam Bankman-Fried's mainstream media support, the exchange's favorable regulatory relationship, and a mysterious hack alleged to be the work of an insider, to name a few.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto community skepticism<\/h2>\n<p>Cryptocurrency community members took to Twitter to share their opinions on the potential relaunch of FTX.<\/p>\n<p>Some took a humorous approach, including <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thelevelupexp\/status\/1646259529682767876\">The Bitcoin Mindset<\/a>, who posted a meme of Samuel L. Jackson in Coming to America, saying, &#8220;WHAT?!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Nebraskangooner\/status\/1646389808049057793\">Nebraskangooner<\/a> replied with a sarcastic meme showing people smiling, giving thumbs up, and the OK sign. He asked why anyone would use FTX again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Hey sorry we stole all your funds but don't worry they'll be safe this time around!<\/span>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Others put forward theories on the revival. <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NazeemElkommos\/status\/1646294656391553028\">Nazeem Elkommos<\/a> questioned how $7.3 billion was recovered. Elkommos speculated that the money came from vested interests intent on keeping the exchange going.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Someone from Wall Street is balling <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#FTX<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> out behind closed doors to continue their Ponzi scheme.<\/span>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/maxkeiser\/status\/1646340724701511680\">Max Keiser<\/a> doubts whether the discovered funds exist.
