{"id":313325,"date":"2023-03-29T13:30:49","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T12:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=313325"},"modified":"2023-03-29T18:44:31","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T17:44:31","slug":"bitcoin-reclaims-28000-despite-regulatory-woes-from-binance-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-reclaims-28000-despite-regulatory-woes-from-binance-lawsuit\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin reclaims $28k despite potential regulatory woes from Binance lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bitcoin rose above $28,000 on March 29, recovering from regulatory pressures caused by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filing against Binance.<\/p>\n<h2>CFTC alleges Binance violated commodities law<\/h2>\n<p>On March 27, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cftc-sues-binance-over-alleged-breaking-of-trading-and-derivatives-rules\/\">CFTC<\/a> sued Binance, CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ), and Compliance Lead Samuel Lim \u2014 alleging the defendants had violated commodities regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint \u2014 filed at the District Court of Illinois \u2014 listed multiple infractions including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Illegally soliciting U.S. users.<\/li>\n<li>Not registering its exchange platform.<\/li>\n<li>Having no headquarters.<\/li>\n<li>Failing to prevent and detect money laundering and terrorist financing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trader <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ImNotTheWolf\/status\/1640381473080627200\">@ImNotTheWolf<\/a> drew attention to the <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">in-house trading desk mentioned in the filing, saying the long and the short of it is that Binance used the info it had on traders to trade against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the platform experienced a surge in withdrawals \u2014 with users taking out over $2 billion in funds, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/binance-sees-2-billion-in-outflows-as-troubles-compound-9a136e21\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to CNBC, CFTC Chair <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SquawkCNBC\/status\/1640685027989102593\">Rostin Behnam<\/a> said the defendants had clear intentions to evade U.S. laws, while having a direct method to access the American market in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/blog\/from-cz\/czs-response-to-the-cftc-complaint-2408916493005890282\">CZ<\/a> responded that he was disappointed and surprised by the complaint as Binance had been working cooperatively with the agency for the last two years. He added that &#8220;we do not agree&#8221; with the allegations, mentioning &#8220;<span class=\"richtext-text css-6hm6tl\" data-bn-type=\"text\">incomplete recitation of facts<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Bitcoin recovers<\/h2>\n<p>On the news of the CFTC filing, Bitcoin lost 5%, sinking as low as $26,500 \u2014 marking a 10-day low.<\/p>\n<p>The leading cryptocurrency then ranged between $26,640 and $27,300 before a break of the range occurred on Tuesday evening (BST).<\/p>\n<p>Around 03:00am ET today, BTC cracked $28,000 \u2014 with the preceding 15-minute candles showing BTC turning resistance into support.
