{"id":311214,"date":"2023-03-21T21:34:37","date_gmt":"2023-03-21T21:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=311214"},"modified":"2023-03-21T21:34:37","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T21:34:37","slug":"onecoin-associate-irina-dilkinska-charged-following-us-extradition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/onecoin-associate-irina-dilkinska-charged-following-us-extradition\/","title":{"rendered":"OneCoin associate Irina Dilkinska charged following US extradition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Irina Dilkinska, a Bulgarian woman involved in the crypto scam OneCoin, has been extradited to the U.S. and has been charged, according to the DOJ on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/pr\/bulgarian-woman-charged-role-multi-billion-dollar-cryptocurrency-pyramid-scheme-onecoin\">March 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Dilkinska faces multiple charges<\/h2>\n<p>An announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice States that Dilkinska was extradited on March 20 and will soon appear before a U.S. magistrate judge.<\/p>\n<p>Dilkinska served as OneCoin's Head of Legal and Compliance. The newly-unsealed charges against Dilkinska allege that she helped to create shell companies in order to launder proceeds and manage property belonging to &#8220;crypto queen&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/fbi-adds-onecoin-founder-ruja-ignatova-crypto-queen-to-its-top-10-most-wanted-list\/\">Ruja Ignatova<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Dilkinska allegedly helped OneCoin lawyer and conspirator Mark Scott launder $400 million in proceeds. Following Scott's arrest, she destroyed incriminating information and notified another individual of the arrest, thereby incriminating herself.<\/p>\n<p>Dilkinska has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, each of which carries a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison. She has not yet been sentenced.<\/p>\n<p>Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, noted that Dilkinska ironically &#8220;accomplished the exact opposite of her job title&#8221; by facilitating fraud.<\/p>\n<h2>Other OneCoin developments<\/h2>\n<p>Various other members of the OneCoin scam have made the news in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/onecoin-co-founder-pleads-guilty-on-fraud-money-laundering-charges\/\">Karl Sebastian Greenwood<\/a> was convicted. That same month, another OneCoin associate, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/onecoin-crisis-manager-frank-schneider-to-face-trial-in-the-us\/\">Frank Schneider<\/a>, faced trial. Developments around two associates in the U.K. \u2014 Christopher Hamilton and Robert McDonald \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/uk-judge-rules-to-extradite-christopher-hamilton-to-us-for-trial-on-onecoin-scam\/\">also occurred<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Reports in February suggested that the scam's leader, Ruja Ignatova, was killed by Bulgarian mobsters in 2018. However, January reports suggest that Ignatova's name appeared on more recent property filings.
