{"id":307257,"date":"2023-03-09T17:44:19","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T17:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=307257"},"modified":"2025-12-03T12:40:41","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T12:40:41","slug":"hedera-experiencing-smart-contract-irregularities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hedera-experiencing-smart-contract-irregularities\/","title":{"rendered":"Hedera experiencing smart contract irregularities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hedera's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/hedera\/\">HBAR<\/a>) core team announced that the network was experiencing &#8220;smart contract irregularities&#8221; about an hour before the time of writing.<\/p>\n<p>The team <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hedera\/status\/1633866752936521728\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">&#8220;The <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">@hedera <\/span>core team is actively investigating the smart contract irregularity that has been discovered.<\/p>\n<p>They are working directly with teams across the DeFi ecosystem to determine the cause and potential impact.<\/p>\n<p>Updates will be provided as they become available.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier today, the HBAR Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HBAR_foundation\/status\/1633803120328208386?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1633803120328208386%7Ctwgr%5E5ae26d4bb574ae9b1e3dfbd41a8a9a8f97d2096e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcryptoslate.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D307257action%3Dedit\">said<\/a> it noticed network irregularities and noted that the Foundation has been working on discovering the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>What's happening?<\/h2>\n<p>Even though Hedera's official channels shared no other information, there is an exploit targeting Hedera smart contracts, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DefiIgnas\/status\/1633821155231674375?s=20\">according<\/a> to @DefiIgnas. He\u00a0published a thread describing the Hedera exploit about three hours before the HBAR Foundation's first tweet.<\/p>\n<p>According to the thread, the exploit is targeting the decompiling process in smart contracts and affecting all Hedera dApps that are using Hedera Token Service (HTS).<\/p>\n<p>However, it was noticed that the attackers had already hit pangolin and HeliSwap pools that contained wrapped assets. Detecting the irregularities, Hashport temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HashportNetwork\/status\/1633771330280767488\">paused<\/a> its bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Pangolin announced the attack via its official Twitter address and advised all users to withdraw their funds as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Due to some Hedera network irregularities, Hashport has paused their bridge, and we&#39;d encourage anyone with HTS tokens in Pangolin Pools and Farms to withdraw immediately.<\/p>\n<p>This is a time critical moment, so we&#39;ll update as soon as we have more information<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pangolin Hedera (@Pangolin_Hedera) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Pangolin_Hedera\/status\/1633771791415132162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hedera&#8217;s (HBAR) core team announced that the network was experiencing &#8220;smart contract irregularities&#8221; about an hour before the time of writing.
