This will include a &#8220;hashboard,&#8221; a controller board, software and firmware, and reference materials and documentation.<\/p>\n<p>The company plans to make the hashboard compatible with its own control board and other devices such as the commonly-used Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n<p>The company also is seeking input on matters such as cost, optimization, configuration interfaces, networking interfaces, programming languages, operating system support, open-source licensing, and compatibility with other mining hardware.<\/p>\n<p>Irwin said that the company aims to offer a suite of tools for use in various applications. Specifically, the MDK could be applied in heating solutions, off-grid mining, home mining, intermittent power applications, and commercial mining optimization.<\/p>\n<p>There is not yet any launch date estimated for the mining kit.<\/p>\n<h2>Cash App company moves into mining<\/h2>\n<p>Block was formerly known as Square and is best known for its Cash App payments app, which has offered support for Bitcoin since 2018. Cash App brought in $848 million of gross profit for the firm in Q4 2022, accounting for about half of its total gross profit in that period.<\/p>\n<p>The company has moved into mining relatively recently. Dorsey initially announced that his firm was considering creating an open Bitcoin mining system in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/jack-dorseys-enigmatic-tweet-sets-bitcoin-btc-mining-rumours-ablaze\/\">October 2021<\/a>. Dorsey later announced more definite plans to that end in <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/jack-dorseys-block-to-build-an-open-bitcoin-mining-system\/\">January 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company's efforts to produce open mining hardware are notable. Bitcoin mining is currently dominated by large companies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitmain\/\">Bitmain<\/a> \u2014 both in terms of hardware manufacturing and in terms of hashrate output from mining centers. Square's efforts, if they are successful, should open the industry to many new participants.<\/p>\n<p>Block has also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/block-blockstream-and-tesla-partner-up-to-create-eco-friendly-mining-farm-using-solar-power\/\">partnered with<\/a> Blockstream and Tesla on an environmentally sustainable mining project.
