{"id":297415,"date":"2023-02-09T16:41:16","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T16:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=297415"},"modified":"2023-02-09T16:41:16","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T16:41:16","slug":"bitfarms-pay-off-21m-debt-with-one-time-cash-payment-of-7-75m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitfarms-pay-off-21m-debt-with-one-time-cash-payment-of-7-75m\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitfarms pay off $21M debt with one-time cash payment of $7.75M"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto miner Bitfarms has settled a $21 million debt owed to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/blockfi-promises-breakdown-of-finances-as-bankruptcy-hearing-proceeds\/\">bankrupt crypto lender<\/a> BlockFi with a one-time cash payment of $7.75 million, according to a Feb. 9 press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2023\/02\/09\/2604825\/0\/en\/Bitfarms-Pays-Off-21M-Debt-Obligations-for-7-75M-in-Cash.html\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bitfarm agreed with BlockFi to restructure the debt and pay off the outstanding principal and interest in one transaction.<\/p>\n<p>The original loan is a $32 million equipment finance facility offered by BlockFi on Feb. 18, 2022. With the loan repayment, Bitfarms' 6,100 miners' collateral for the loan is now unencumbered.<\/p>\n<p>Bitfarms said the loan payment further reduces its debt obligations from $165 million in June 2022 to $25 million, representing an 85% decrease in less than nine months.<\/p>\n<p>Bitfarms chief financial officer Jeff Lucas said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis successful negotiation and settlement furthers our initiatives to reduce indebtedness, enhance liquidity and increase financial flexibility in line with today\u2019s market conditions.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BlockFi was one of the most prominent financiers for crypto miners in 2021 and 2022, but it now has several <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/asic-financing-debt-worsened-bitcoin-miners-liabilities-in-2022-report\/\">bad debts<\/a>. <span class=\"s4\">Bloomberg<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-23\/bankrupt-lender-blockfi-to-sell-bitcoin-mining-backed-loans\">reported<\/a> that the firm was looking to sell $160 million in loans to miners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto miner Bitfarms has settled a $21 million debt owed to bankrupt crypto lender BlockFi with a one-time cash payment of $7.75 million, according to a Feb. 9 press statement.
