(the \u201cCompany\u201d) (NYSE: MCB), the holding company for Metropolitan Commercial Bank, today announced that it will fully exit the crypto-asset related vertical.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JrTOs1y5sX\">https:\/\/t.co\/JrTOs1y5sX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Metropolitan Commercial Bank (@MCBankNY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MCBankNY\/status\/1612454023973507076?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While talking about the reason for leaving the crypto asset vertical, MCB cited \u201crecent developments in the crypto-asset industry\u201d and \u201cchanges in the regulatory environment regarding banks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MCB currently has four active institutions that comprise about 1.5% of its revenues and 6% of its deposits, and thus the departure will have little impact on MCB's financials, according to the press release.\u00a0 Based on the firm's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20221020006028\/en\/Metropolitan-Bank-Holding-Corp.-Reports-Quarterly-Net-Income#:~:text=(the%20%E2%80%9CCompany%E2%80%9D)%20(,the%20third%20quarter%20of%202021.\">Q3 2022 income report<\/a>, these figures equal approximately $1 million in revenue and $342 million in deposits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the services, MCB provided to its clients were debit cards, payment processing, and account management. President and CEO of MCB, Mark R. DeFazio said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCrypto-related clients, assets, and deposits have never represented a material portion of the Company\u2019s business and have never exposed the Company to material financial risks.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, MCB has assured customers this development will not affect their ability to transact with crypto-currency companies or MCB's service to customers without crypto-asset-related activity as a principal business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As reported, the bank currently has no outstanding loans to any of these clients, does not keep crypto assets on its balance sheet, and does not facilitate the sale of crypto assets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The troubles of the crypto sector after Terra-Luna and FTX collapse continued this year with plummeting deposits, increasing layoffs, and legal hurdles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For instance, more than <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/silvergate-capital-bank-forced-to-sell-assets-at-loss-fires-40-of-staff\/\">$8 billion<\/a> in crypto-related deposits were withdrawn from Silvergate Capital Corp following the collapse of FTX. Consequently, the firm sold assets at a loss to cover the bank run and laid off over 200 employees &#8211; 40% of its
