However, the next candle closed at $11.18, giving up approximately half of those gains.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the price action was sufficient to rank SOL as the second biggest gainer in the top 100, marginally behind Lido, which saw 14.6% gains over the same period.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_285459\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-285459\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-285459 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/SOLUSDT_2023-01-02_09-46-44-1024x465.png\" alt=\"Solana chart 15 minute\" width=\"1024\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/SOLUSDT_2023-01-02_09-46-44-1024x465.png 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/SOLUSDT_2023-01-02_09-46-44-300x136.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/SOLUSDT_2023-01-02_09-46-44-768x349.png 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/SOLUSDT_2023-01-02_09-46-44.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-285459\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: SOLUSDT on TradingView.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>2022 &#8211; a terrible year for Solana<\/h2>\n<p>Since the FTX collapse, Solana had been caught in the firing line due to its association with the disgraced exchange and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF).<\/p>\n<p>FTX is said to hold <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.movies.yahoo.com\/inside-relationship-between-sam-bankman-172816238.html\">58 million<\/a> SOL tokens and was a significant supporter of the Solana ecosystem through a myriad of developments, including the building of the Serum DEX.<\/p>\n<p>Peak-to-trough movements during the turmoil amounted to a 79% drawdown, which posted a local bottom of $8.04 on Dec. 29. Similarly, 2022 losses came in at -96%, capping a terrible year for SOL investors.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the FTX saga, the issue of VC influence, in particular greed and short-termism, cropped up, casting a negative light on all projects with significant VC control.<\/p>\n<h2>Will 2023 be a better year?<\/h2>\n<p>Recently, several influencers and investors have come out in support of Solana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheEliteCrypto\/status\/1609527483065327616\">@TheEliteCrypto<\/a> warned that &#8220;the free fall [in price] may not yet be over,&#8221; but echoing Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, he also thinks the future is bright for Solana.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/585Eth\/status\/1609352460212264960\">@585.ETH<\/a> posted a screengrab of NFT sales volume by blockchain, showing that, second to Ethereum, Solana had the highest sales volume for non-fungibles, despite the tribulations of recent weeks.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">&#8220;Just a reminder apart from Ethereum and despite all of the fud, Solana has more Nft volume than all other chains combined<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A significant turning point came when <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sol-price-recovers-as-vitalik-tweets-support-for-solana-community\/\">Buterin<\/a> tweeted his approval of the embattled project on Dec. 29. The Ethereum co-founder praised the Solana development community and said, with the VC influence &#8220;washed out, the chain has a bright future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Now that the awful opportunistic money people have been washed out, the chain has a bright future.<\/span>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, not everyone is convinced, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rovercrc\/status\/1609574199953133568\">@rovercrc<\/a> tweeted that &#8220;SOL is the next EOS.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solana began the New Year on a high, gaining 14% over the last 24 hours.
