{"id":277033,"date":"2022-11-23T18:36:43","date_gmt":"2022-11-23T18:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=277033"},"modified":"2022-11-23T18:36:43","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T18:36:43","slug":"bitfinexs-reserves-are-91-bitcoin-ethereum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitfinexs-reserves-are-91-bitcoin-ethereum\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitfinex&#8217;s reserves are 91% Bitcoin, Ethereum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to data shared by crypto influencer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/john_j_brown\/status\/1594626237200470016\">John Brown<\/a>, 91% of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitfinex\/\">Bitfinex<\/a> exchange's reserves are Bitcoin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>) and Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> follows Bitfinex as a close second by having 63% of its reserves in Bitcoin and Ethereum, according to additional information added by Brown.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The ratio of reserves held in BTC & ETH differs strongly per exchange. <br \/>(Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cryptoquant_com?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@cryptoquant_com<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UwxRrS5Ltc\">pic.twitter.com\/UwxRrS5Ltc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; John Brown (@john_j_brown) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/john_j_brown\/status\/1594626237200470016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 21, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/crypto-com\/\">Crypto.com<\/a> comes as the third exchange with the most significant Ethereum and Bitcoin percentages at 52%.<\/p>\n<p>Leading exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a> is placed at the bottom of the list by having only 15% of its reserves consisting of Bitcoin or Ethereum.<\/p>\n<h2>Proof of reserves<\/h2>\n<p>Upon the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ftx\/\">FTX<\/a> collapse, Binance CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\/\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-to-start-proof-of-reserves-cz-proposes-all-crypto-exchanges-follow-suit\/\">suggested<\/a> that all exchanges publish their proof-of-reserves. Many exchanges followed Zhao's advice and published their documents, including Bitfinex, Crypto.com, Binance, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/okx\/\">OKX<\/a>, and Coinbase.<\/p>\n<p>According to its proof-of-reserves, Bitfinex <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bitfinex.com\/media-releases\/bitfinex-resilient-in-face-of-market-events-committed-to-greater-transparency-and-demonstrating-proof-of-reserves\/\">holds<\/a> around 207,356.67967717 Bitcoins and 1,225.600 Ethereums.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto.com's 52% equates to 53,024 Bitcoins and 391,564 Ethereum, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.com\/company-news\/transparency-first\">proof of reserves<\/a>. The exchange also stated that its Bitcoin and Ethereum are worth around $3 billion when combined with Crypto.com's other holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Binance also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/feed\/post\/53973\">published<\/a> its proof of funds on Nov. 11. The exchange disclosed that it held around $69 billion worth of digital assets. It also detailed that it had 475,000 Bitcoin and 4.8 million Ethereum, which consists of only 15% of the exchange's reserves. Binance also holds 58 million BNB and 17.6 billion USDT, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.okx.com\/proof-of-reserves\">OKX<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/blog\/setting-the-record-straight-your-funds-are-safe-at-coinbase-and-always-will-be\">Coinbase<\/a>, on the other hand, revealed that they back all their users' assets at 1:1 by real funds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to data shared by crypto influencer John Brown, 91% of Bitfinex exchange&#8217;s reserves are Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
