Arweave sees value in solving the issue of web data impermanence.<\/p>\n<p>Underpinning Arweave's system is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arweave.org\/technology\">the blockweave<\/a>&#8221; \u2014 a mechanism <span data-slate-leaf=\"true\">that cost-efficiently enables scalable on-chain storage. As the amount of data in the system increases over time, the amount of hashing needed to reach consensus goes down. The end result is a decreasing cost of storage as the system scales up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Its <span class=\"Cite__wrapper\" data-cite-id=\"1964003\"><span class=\"Cite__highlight\"><span data-slate-leaf=\"true\">Proof-of-Access (PoA)<\/span><\/span><\/span> protocol requires miners to <span data-slate-leaf=\"true\">provide disk space and replicate the data stored within the network to earn AR tokens. To &#8220;mine&#8221; under PoA means verifying a new block (of stored information) and providing <\/span><span data-slate-leaf=\"true\">cryptographic proof of recall access to the information stored in the block.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the partnership, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/samecwilliams\/status\/1587937651457261568\">Williams<\/a> applauded Meta for &#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">their diligence and implementation of permanent storage for their users<\/span>.&#8221; Adding that permanence is a sign of quality NFTs.<\/p>\n<h2>Instagram becoming an NFT marketplace<\/h2>\n<p>Meta also announced partnering with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/polygon-surges-10-following-instagram-use-of-its-platform\/\">Polygon<\/a> for minting and selling NFTs at zero cost on the Instagram platform. However, Meta\u2019s Head of Commerce and Financial Technology, Stephane Kasriel, said fees will apply after 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Creators will soon be able to make their own digital collectibles on Instagram and sell them to fans, both on and off Instagram.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The feature was rolled out as a trial for select U.S. creators and collectors.
