{"id":266543,"date":"2022-10-07T14:45:32","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T13:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=266543"},"modified":"2022-10-07T14:54:29","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T13:54:29","slug":"ethereum-classics-twitter-account-repurposed-for-ergo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-classics-twitter-account-repurposed-for-ergo\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum Classic&#8217;s Twitter account repurposed for Ergo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum Classic's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum-classic\/\">ETC<\/a>) Twitter account with over 670,000 followers was repurposed into a new account for rival proof-of-work network Ergo (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ergo\/\">ERG<\/a>) on Oct. 6.<\/p>\n<h2>Hoskinson had control of ETC\u2019s former Twitter account<\/h2>\n<p>ETC Cooperative executive director Bob Summerville revealed what transpired in a new Twitter thread.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So what just happened with this account? \ud83e\uddf5<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ethereum Classic (@eth_classic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eth_classic\/status\/1578133771647610880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to Summerville, trouble began when ETC Cooperative withdrew its support for IOHK's 20% in-protocol treasury fee and Cardano's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/cardano\/\">ADA<\/a>) founder Charles Hoskinson refused to cede control of the project's Twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>Summerville continued that when an ETC community member confronted Hoskinson about his continued control of the account, he said it was his account and that he:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Can't get back the millions of dollars of development we spent nor the years of time supporting a blockchain that didn't seem to want to do anything other than preserve a status quo. We'll call it even.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Return? It&#39;s my account. As for return, I can&#39;t get back the millions of dollars of development we spent nor the years of time supporting a blockchain that didn&#39;t seem to want to do anything other than preserve a status quo. We&#39;ll call it even<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles\/status\/1566911099630387205?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Efforts to get Hoskinson to donate or sell the account to the ETC community proved futile as Hoskinson called the network a &#8220;dead horse&#8221; and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-classic-falls-13-cardano-founder-recommends-ergo-for-pow\/\">urged<\/a> Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>) miners to migrate to Ergo instead.<\/p>\n<p>Summerville pointed out that Hoskinson threatened to &#8220;use the account for something,&#8221; adding that he would assign his team over the coming week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You&#39;re right Bob. I&#39;ll assign our team this upcoming week on it.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles\/status\/1574198923983405056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 26, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Summerville stated that the new account was handed over to him by the community manager for Ergo.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Twitter support had nothing to do with this.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eth_classic?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@eth_classic<\/a> was renamed\/reused as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ergo_Platform?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Ergo_Platform<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sigmanaut?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sigmanaut<\/a>, the Ergo community manager handed this new account over to me.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bob Summerwill @ DEVCON6, Bogot\u00e1 (@BobSummerwill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BobSummerwill\/status\/1578083922822713344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>ETC's previous Twitter account was active since July 2016 and was used to promote the network and provide updates for its community. The new account has less than 500 followers as of press time.<\/p>\n<h2>Ergo's Twitter community has risen 10x<\/h2>\n<p>Ergo, whose previous account @ergoplatformorg had just 64,000 followers, has seen its online community grow by more than 10x within 24 hours. Why would we want a Twitter account full of another blockchain&#39;s followers. This was a lost opportunity to build bridges. Ergo has now become part of a feud that it had nothing to do with.
