{"id":261410,"date":"2022-09-12T16:03:14","date_gmt":"2022-09-12T15:03:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=261410"},"modified":"2022-09-12T16:03:14","modified_gmt":"2022-09-12T15:03:14","slug":"starbucks-launches-nft-loyalty-program-on-polygon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/starbucks-launches-nft-loyalty-program-on-polygon\/","title":{"rendered":"Starbucks launches NFT loyalty program on Polygon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starbucks has <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.starbucks.com\/press\/2022\/starbucks-brewing-revolutionary-web3-experience-for-its-starbucks-rewards-members\/\">announced <\/a>it will launch its official NFT Rewards loyalty program tagged &#8220;Starbucks Odyssey&#8221; on Ethereum's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>) layer2 Polygon (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/polygon\/\">MATIC<\/a>) network later this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement, the new loyalty program combines its existing rewards program and a non-fungible token platform where users can earn and buy NFTs that give them access to exclusive rewards.<\/p>\n<p>While built on the blockchain, Starbucks makes the reward system as simple as possible by obscuring the underlying technology.<\/p>\n<p>The Starbucks Odyssey participants can log into the program with their loyalty program details. They can engage in interactive activities called journeys and earn NFTs called Journey stamps.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the coffee chain revealed that users could buy these NFTs with debit and credit cards.<\/p>\n<p>The firm did not provide information on the number of NFTs in the collection or the price of each NFT.<\/p>\n<h2>Starbucks' NFT plan has been in the works for a while<\/h2>\n<p>The company has been working on its foray into web3 for some time. In its Q2 earnings call, Chief Marketing Officer Brady Brewer said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEmerging technologies associated with web3, and specifically NFTs, now enable this aspiration and allow us to extend who Starbucks has always been at our core.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The firm added that its NFT community would be on an environmentally sustainable platform which would likely be chain agnostic or multichain.<\/p>\n<h2>Polygon is helping web2 companies pivot to web3<\/h2>\n<p>Several web2 companies looking to pivot into the web3 have increasingly chosen Polygon network as their partner of choice,<\/p>\n<p>This year alone, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Prada, Bulgari, DraftKings, Liverpool Football Club, and several others have <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/polygon-on-way-to-reaching-mass-adoption-with-major-partnerships\/\"><span class=\"s4\">launched<\/span><\/a> NFT collections on the layer-2 network.<\/p>\n<p>Technology companies like Adobe and Meta have also integrated support for Polygon in one way or another.
