{"id":260631,"date":"2022-09-08T15:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T14:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=260631"},"modified":"2022-09-08T15:01:36","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T14:01:36","slug":"aave-developers-to-get-16-8m-in-retroactive-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/aave-developers-to-get-16-8m-in-retroactive-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Aave developers to get $16.8M in retroactive funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aave (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/aave\/\">AAVE<\/a>) V3 developer Aave Companies is set to receive retroactive funding of $16.28 million from the DeFi protocol's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).<\/p>\n<h2>Retroactive funding proposal<\/h2>\n<p>The developers submitted a <a href=\"https:\/\/governance.aave.com\/t\/arc-aave-v3-retroactive-funding\/9250\">proposal<\/a> to the DAO on Aug. 10 requesting funds to cover payments for development work done over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal requested $15 million in retroactive funding for developers' work over the past year and $1.28 million for third-party auditors like ABDK, OpenZeppelin, PeckShield, SigmaPrime, and Trail of Bits.<\/p>\n<p>As of press time, over 669,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/app.aave.com\/governance\/proposal\/?proposalId=98\">votes<\/a> have been cast in favor of the proposal without opposition. Voting will end on Sept 8 at 19:00 UTC.<\/p>\n<p>Once approved the payment will be made via Aave tokens and stablecoins. The proposal included a breakdown of the compensation model.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, support for the payment is coming despite the decline in Aave DAO assets. Nansen data shows that Aave DAO liquid assets dropped to $378 million from over $800 million in April.<\/p>\n<h2>What is retroactive funding?<\/h2>\n<p>Retroactive public goods funding became popular in 2021 after Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>) co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Layer-2 network Optimism published a <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/ethereum-optimism\/retroactive-public-goods-funding-33c9b7d00f0c\">piece<\/a> on it.<\/p>\n<p>The funding model incentivizes developers to work on projects knowing they will get paid based on the value of their work.<\/p>\n<h2>Lido DAO approves 10 million token sales<\/h2>\n<p>Lido (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/lido-dao-token\/\">LDO<\/a>) DAO <a href=\"https:\/\/research.lido.fi\/t\/treasury-diversification-2-part-2\/2657\">approved<\/a> the sales of 10 million Lido tokens to VC firm Dragonfly Capital to cover expenses incurred for over two years.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-09-07\/defi-projects-look-to-replenish-treasuries-after-crypto-collapse\">Bloomberg News<\/a>, the DeFi protocol made the decision to deal with the fallout of the recent market crash.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Blish, head of business development at Lido Finance, told the newswire the project did not quickly anticipate the effect of the market crash.
