{"id":260215,"date":"2022-09-07T11:00:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-07T10:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=260215"},"modified":"2022-09-07T10:50:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T09:50:15","slug":"ripple-hints-at-new-cbdc-announcements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-hints-at-new-cbdc-announcements\/","title":{"rendered":"Ripple hints at new CBDC announcements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ripple's (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a>) advisor on central bank digital currency (CBDC), Anthony Welfare, revealed that the company has &#8220;several pilots&#8221; in the works related to CBDCs which will be made public in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thanks <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sentosumosaba?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sentosumosaba<\/a> for the mention &#8211; make sure you follow me for more CBDC announcements in the next few weeks \ud83d\udc4c\ud83d\udc4c\ud83d\udc4c<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Antony Welfare (@AntonyWelfare) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AntonyWelfare\/status\/1567080607263477761?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Welfare made the statement in response to Sentosumosaba's tweet, which shared a screenshot showing that Ripple had &#8220;several pilots in progress for CBDCs, including the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) of Bhutan and the Republic of Palau.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Ripple's CBDC partnerships<\/h2>\n<p>After launching a private version of XRP Ledger for central banks last year, Ripple has scored several partnerships with countries considering a CBDC project.<\/p>\n<p>While the public is yet to have all the information on its CBDC pilots, the partnership with Palau and Bhutan has been public information since last year.<\/p>\n<p>Ripple partnered with the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan for a CBDC pilot in 2021. The project will help the country issue digital ngultrum to improve cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2021, it also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-to-help-create-a-cbdc-for-this-tiny-island-nation\/\">partnered<\/a> with Palau. However, it is working on a USD-backed stablecoin for the island nation.<\/p>\n<h2>Ripple is participating in the Digital Dollar project<\/h2>\n<p>The blockchain firm has made more moves in recent days. It is one of the first four participants in the Digital Dollar Project focused on examining the possibility of a digital USD.<\/p>\n<p>The Digital Dollar Project is a nonprofit focused on the digital version of the US dollar, and it recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/the-digital-dollar-project-launches-technical-sandbox-program-to-explore-central-bank-digital-currency-infrastructure-solutions-301615242.html\">announced<\/a> the launch of its Sandbox program. The program will start in October, and the first focus will be on cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<p>Besides this project, Ripple is also a partner of the Digital Euro Association think tank, which it joined in February. The association is also focused on the development of CBDCs in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ripple is still engrossed in a legal battle with the SEC over its XRP token. The case has been in court since 2020 and has significantly affected Ripple XRP's value.
