{"id":259771,"date":"2022-09-05T20:21:38","date_gmt":"2022-09-05T19:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=259771"},"modified":"2023-06-23T22:43:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T21:43:39","slug":"binance-will-stop-supporting-usdc-certain-other-stablecoins-by-sept-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-will-stop-supporting-usdc-certain-other-stablecoins-by-sept-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Binance will stop supporting USDC, certain other stablecoins by Sept. 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Binance has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/announcement\/e62f703604a94538a1f1bc803b2d579f\">revealed<\/a> that it would remove USD Coin (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/usd-coin\/\">USDC<\/a>), TrueUSD (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/true-usd\/\">TUSD<\/a>), and Paxos Standard (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/paxos-standard-token\/\">USDP<\/a>) as tradeable assets on its platform and convert its users' balance in these stablecoins to Binance USD (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/binance-usd\/\">BUSD<\/a>) by Sept. 29.<\/p>\n<p>According to Binance, the move is geared toward enhancing liquidity and capital efficiency for its users.<\/p>\n<p>The Changpeng Zhao-led exchange continued that users can manually convert their holdings in these stablecoins to BUSD. However, they cannot convert from BUSD to the affected stablecoins.<\/p>\n<p>Binance users would also be unable to use USDC as a margin asset for their futures trades. USDC has also been removed from its other products like Savings & Stakings, Binance Pay, Crypto Loans, Gift cards, and others.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Changpeng Zhao clarified in a tweet that Binance was not delisting USDC and users will still be able to deposit and withdraw USDC.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Not delist. You can still deposit and withdraw USDC. Just merging all liquidity into one pair. Best price, lowest slippage for users.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; CZ \ud83d\udd36 Binance (@cz_binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1566857303399272448?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>CryptoSlate research previously <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-usdc-withdrawals-top-1-billion-per-day-this-week\/\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0that an average of $1 billion USDC left Binance's USDC hot wallets during the week of August 29.<\/p>\n<p>USDC is the second-largest stablecoin in the crypto space, with a market cap of $52 billion. The Binance-backed stablecoin is ranked third with a market cap of $19.5 billion, while TUSD ranks fifth with a market cap of $1 billion. USDP is sixth and has a market cap of $945 million.<\/p>\n<p>Tether's <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tether\/\">USDT<\/a> is the dominant stablecoin in the space, with a market cap of $67 billion, accounting for over 80% of the trading volume in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>USDC recently faced criticism from crypto stakeholders over its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/circle-blacklists-all-tornado-cash-eth-addresses-effectively-freezing-usdc\/\">decision<\/a> to block wallets that have interacted with Tornado Cash because of the US sanctions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Binance has revealed that it would remove USD Coin (USDC), TrueUSD (TUSD), and Paxos Standard (USDP) as tradeable assets on its platform and convert its users&#8217; balance in these stablecoins to Binance USD (BUSD) by Sept. 29.
