{"id":258636,"date":"2022-08-31T11:30:38","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T10:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=258636"},"modified":"2022-08-31T10:49:08","modified_gmt":"2022-08-31T09:49:08","slug":"helium-developers-propose-migration-to-solana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/helium-developers-propose-migration-to-solana\/","title":{"rendered":"Helium developers propose migration to Solana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blockchain-powered wireless network Helium (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/helium\/\">HNT<\/a>) is considering migrating to Solana (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">SOL<\/a>) blockchain in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/helium-foundation\/hip-70-helium-core-team-proposes-to-migrate-to-solana-e7ea23a042e7\">proposal<\/a> published on August 30.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"s4\">HIP 70 proposal <\/span>explains that the migration to Solana would improve the network's operational efficiency by giving Helium access to Solana developer tools, applications, and features.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal seeks to make three major changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Move Proof of Coverage (PoC) to Oracles.<\/li>\n<li>Move Data Transfer Accounting to Oracles.<\/li>\n<li>Migrate the Helium network and all its tokens to the Solana blockchain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why Helium wants to migrate<\/h2>\n<p>The proposal claimed the migration is necessary because the growing use of the Helium network has made it difficult to manage data flow and accounting, leading to inefficiency issues.<\/p>\n<p>Moving PoC and Data transfer to Oracles will help solve these problems and make the network more stable, allowing higher scalability.<\/p>\n<p>The developers added that the migration to Solana is appropriate as it provides a scalable architecture Helium currently needs.<\/p>\n<p>Helium developers believe the conditions that made them develop a Layer1 blockchain for the network no longer exist. The crypto ecosystem has matured, and the number of Layer1 options to build on has increased.<\/p>\n<h2>What will Helium gain?<\/h2>\n<p>According to the proposal, the migration will make Helium part of a thriving developer ecosystem, leveraging its services for their works, thereby increasing its adoption.<\/p>\n<p>It continued that Helium would benefit from Solana's extensive open-source community and access to more blockchain developers.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal also stated that there would be a 6.85% increase in the volume of HNT reward tokens that goes to miners or node operators following the migration.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, there is no timeline for when the migration will happen should the proposal be passed.
