By the end of the lock-in period, Porter assumes the dollar equivalent value would be more than enough to repay the loan balance.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the improbability of this happening, the crypto community also chimed in with feedback on Porter's idea.<\/p>\n<h2>The Biden administration comes under fire<\/h2>\n<p>U.S. student debt, consisting of federal and private loans, totals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/advisor\/student-loans\/average-student-loan-statistics\/\">$1.75 trillion<\/a>. Data showed the issue impacts 45 million Americans \u2014 about one in seven.<\/p>\n<p>On August 24, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/08\/24\/fact-sheet-president-biden-announces-student-loan-relief-for-borrowers-who-need-it-most\/\">White House<\/a> announced a student loan relief package canceling $10,000 in debt for those earning less than $125,000 per year. While low-income families who had received the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/grants\/pell\">Pell Grants<\/a> qualify for $20,000 of debt forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/24\/us\/politics\/student-loan-forgiveness-biden.html\">President Biden<\/a> said the relief measures would help Americans cope with debt management, and the knock-on effects will see tangible economic benefits.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;To finally think about buying a home or starting a family or starting a business. And by the way, when this happens, the whole economy is better off.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the whole, mainstream media has spun the story into a positive event. For example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/58bb4dae-bb0e-4e1b-8298-5117af29241a\">Financial Times<\/a> dismissed inflation risk, calling the relief program &#8220;an economic nothing burger.&#8221; Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/us\/student-debt-relief-package-could-lead-deflation-us-official-says-2022-08-24\/\">Reuters<\/a> suggested it could lead to price deflation.<\/p>\n<p>However, critics raise several issues with the program. Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattRinaldiTX\/status\/1562220078925578240\">Matt Rinaldi<\/a>, pointed out that the money has to come from somewhere, and it will be &#8220;truck drivers and plumbers&#8221; footing the bill.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Harvard has a $42 billion endowment. Yale\u2019s is $31 billion.
