There may be some better option (C) or a legal challenge as well that could help reach a better outcome.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Brian Armstrong &#8211; barmstrong.eth (@brian_armstrong) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brian_armstrong\/status\/1560016827253551104?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Armstrong, in a hypothetical situation like that, the firm would have to focus on the bigger picture of preserving the network integrity by shutting its services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He continued that the firm could also mount a legal challenge to the request from the authorities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Armstrong was responding to a question from rotkiapp founder Lefteris Karapetsas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Coinbase staking service<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coinbase is one of the largest staking solution providers controlling over 14% of the staked Ethereum (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a>) on the Beacon Chain, according to Dune Analytics <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/hildobby\/ETH2-Deposits\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The US-based firm revealed that crypto staking accounted for 8.5% of its revenue during the second quarter, adding that the product was a high-growth area for its operation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm offers crypto-staking solutions for Ethereum, Algorand (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/algorand\/\">ALGO<\/a>), Cosmos (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/cosmos\/\">ATOM<\/a>), Cardano (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/cardano\/\">ADA<\/a>), Solana (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">SOL<\/a>), and Tezos (<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tezos\/\">XTZ<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also recently began <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.coinbase.com\/coinbase-prime-grows-its-staking-offering-with-eth-23c90eab5118?gi=14d7dd0b666\">offering<\/a> Ethereum staking for institutional clients in early August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-staking-product-is-under-sec-investigations\/\">reports<\/a> have emerged that the SEC was investigating Coinbase's staking product.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Validators and regulatory fears<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In light of the US sanction on Tornado Cash, the crypto community has become increasingly worried that regulators could force centralized entities under their jurisdiction to censor transactions on the Ethereum protocol.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why?
