{"id":246530,"date":"2022-07-02T14:32:02","date_gmt":"2022-07-02T13:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=246530"},"modified":"2022-07-02T14:32:02","modified_gmt":"2022-07-02T13:32:02","slug":"meta-to-end-novi-crypto-program-by-september-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/meta-to-end-novi-crypto-program-by-september-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta to end Novi crypto program by September 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\">Meta has disclosed plans to discontinue its Novi pilot crypto program by September 1, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-01\/meta-to-shut-down-novi-service-in-september-in-crypto-winter#xj4y7vzkg\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Per the project's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.novi.com\">website<\/a>, Novi services will no longer be available on its application and WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>The firm revealed that users will not be able to make deposits into their accounts from July 21 while advising those with funds to withdraw their balance.<\/p>\n<p>The Novi program\u00a0allows people to\u00a0send and receive money instantly, securely, and with no fees.<\/p>\n<p>A Meta spokesperson reportedly said the company would be leveraging its experience in this failed project for other future adventures it makes into the crypto space.<\/p>\n<p>According to the spokesperson,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Meta is very optimistic about the value these (blockchain) technologies can bring to people and businesses in the metaverse.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Novi pilot program was launched in 2021 to much fear and debate. US federal lawmakers had <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/stablecoin-crypto-diem-shuns-its-facebook-connection\/\">strongly opposed<\/a> Meta's (Facebook) attempt &#8220;to launch a cryptocurrency and digital wallet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This increased regulatory scrutiny forced Meta to backtrack on its crypto domination quest. Earlier this year, the social media giant <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/silvergate-swoops-in-with-200-million-bid-on-failed-diem-project\/\">sold<\/a> Diem's assets for $200 million to Silvergate Bank.<\/p>\n<h2>Meta proceeds with NFT plans for Facebook<\/h2>\n<p>Meta has revealed that Facebook now supports\u00a0digital collectibles for selected users in the United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We&#39;re launching NFTs on Facebook! According to Zuckerberg, creators will be able to &#8220;cross-post&#8221; their collections across Instagram and Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Instagram is the first Meta-owned social media site to enable <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/meta-taps-polygon-to-build-nft-platform-for-instagram-facebook\/\">support<\/a> for NFTs.
