{"id":245611,"date":"2022-06-28T13:00:58","date_gmt":"2022-06-28T12:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=245611"},"modified":"2022-06-28T12:44:20","modified_gmt":"2022-06-28T11:44:20","slug":"coinflex-to-resume-withdrawals-with-token-issuance-fundraise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinflex-to-resume-withdrawals-with-token-issuance-fundraise\/","title":{"rendered":"CoinFlex to resume withdrawals after raising funds via new token issuance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crypto exchange CoinFlex will resume withdrawals after issuing a new token \u2014 dubbed Recovery Value USD (rvUSD) \u2014 which will offer 20% annual returns to users, the exchange announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/cfv2-media.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com\/media\/pdf\/rvUSD_Whitepaper.pdf\"><span class=\"s4\">whitepaper<\/span><\/a> on June 27.<\/p>\n<p>CoinFlex intends to issue $47 million worth of rvUSD starting June 28 to help deal with liquidity issues and expects withdrawals to resume by June 30, depending on the demand for the new token.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement, only non-U.S. sophisticated investors can participate in the token sale.<\/p>\n<p>CoinFlex CEO, Mark Lamb, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-27\/crypto-exchange-coinflex-to-issue-tokens-after-withdrawal-freeze?srnd=premium\">told<\/a> <span class=\"s4\">Bloomberg News<\/span>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We\u2019ve spoken to a significant number of private investors such that we think that at least half of the issuance is going to be subscribed for.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked about the possibility of a bank run, Lamb said this is very unlikely as customers can withdraw funds immediately after the fundraising via token issuance is complete.<\/p>\n<p>The decision comes a few days after CoinFlex became the latest crypto firm to halt withdrawals. It stopped withdrawals after a high net worth customer failed to repay a $47 million debt.<\/p>\n<p>CoinFlex exchange focused on derivatives trading and paused withdrawals last Thursday, claiming that an individual with &#8220;substantial shareholdings in several unicorn private companies and a large portfolio&#8221; faced liquidity issues and couldn't repay their debt.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO did not give the individual's name but said that CoinFlex believes this liability is only a small portion of the counterparty assets.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, the counterparty is not a lending firm. CoinFlex said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In normal circumstances, we would auto-liquidate a position that runs low on equity at prices that are prior to the zero-equity price.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, this particular user has a non-liquidation option on their account. Furthermore, it added that no other account has negative equity.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto firms are battling liquidity issues<\/h2>\n<p>Liquidity issues in the crypto industry are gradually becoming a contagion problem with several firms and exchanges <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/trouble-at-celsius-network-users-report-difficulties-withdrawing-funds\/\">pausing<\/a> withdrawals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/three-arrows-capital\/\">Three Arrows Capital<\/a>, Babel Finance, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/celsius-network\/\">Celsius Network<\/a> face similar problems.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CoinFlex added that it would be more transparent after restoring withdrawals.
