JP Morgan\u2019s CEO Jamie Dimon has turned around on his dark view of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/\">world\u2019s biggest crypto<\/a> and is starting to eat his words after the recent explosion of cryptocurrencies across the board, Bitcoin leading the pack.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street CEO has been one of blockchain\u2019s biggest adversaries to date, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/09\/12\/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-raises-flag-on-trading-revenue-sees-20-percent-fall-for-the-third-quarter.html\">coming up with one-liners<\/a> like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIt\u2019s just not a real thing, eventually it will be closed.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSomeone is going to get killed.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>(Bitcoin is) \u201ca fraud.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yet, Dimon noted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/2018\/01\/09\/exclusive-jpmorgan-chase-chairman-ceo-jamie-dimon-regrets-saying-bitcoin-is-fraud-but-still-isnt-interested-in-it.html\">in a FOX Business interview<\/a> on Tuesday that not only does he \u201cregret calling Bitcoin a fraud\u201d, but he admits that blockchain is real- (thanks Jamie, we needed that). When it comes to bashing Bitcoin, he hasn\u2019t done a complete U-turn, however.<\/p>\n<p>Dimon further elaborated,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Bitcoin to me was always what the governments are gonna feel about bitcoin as it gets really big, and I just have a different opinion than other people. I'm not interested that much in the subject at all.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While he cannot deny the success of <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\">Bitcoin<\/a> and blockchain any longer, Dimon expresses he is just not interested in cryptocurrencies. It pays to take any statement by a large financial corporation with a grain of salt, mind you.<\/p>\n<h2>Confusion and Chaos in the Media<\/h2>\n<p>While Dimon is an undisputed kingpin in the banking world, his statements on cryptos highlight some colossal gaps in his understanding of the technology and its place in the future of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Misinformation is highly damaging to the cryptocurrency market because of the number of amateur investors that can be scared into selling by a single comment.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that players like Dimon are some of the biggest voices for the public right now is gravely concerning- when the mainstream media should be giving equal (if not more) exposure to leading industry experts.<\/p>\n<p>For one, claiming that a cryptocurrency can be \u201cclosed\u201d is enough to make anyone who understands blockchain laugh out loud &#8212; this is why his comments are largely dismissed by blockchain advocates.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, cryptocurrencies will invariably face regulation in the future, but \u201cclosing\u201d one would require every single node in existence to be shut down- namely requiring a collaborative effort between every government on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Given that most nations can\u2019t unite over much more pressing affairs (climate change, for example), a global attempt to take down cryptocurrencies looks highly unlikely, to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>This whole debacle has highlighted an enormous divide in knowledge surrounding cryptocurrency. While the mainstream media largely understand it as a financial revolution, in reality, this is just the tip of the iceberg.<\/p>\n<h2>Deriving Value From Actual Usage<\/h2>\n<p>In theory, the value of cryptocurrencies is derived from their actual worth and usage &#8211; the problems they solve, and their innovative solutions. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/lisk\/\">Lisk's blockchain application platform<\/a> allows anyone to build applications in JavaScript &#8212; enabling more businesses and individuals to take advantage of blockchain technology.<\/p>\n<p>Their innovative technology explains the value of their token <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/look-lisk-148x-year\/\">surging nearly 40,000%<\/a> since their inception.<\/p>\n<p>This is why Dimon is ultimately unqualified to offer predictions as to the future of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> or cryptocurrency, unless he can prove he understands their usage case and offer a valid counter-argument. While <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coinscamlist.com\/\">fraudulent coins<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/category\/abandoned\/\">abandoned coins<\/a> are plentiful, saying they are all bad eggs is much like saying every email you receive is a scam.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, we could say much the same for statements about cryptocurrency.
