Users report difficulties withdrawing funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Celsius Network is feeling the heat following allegations that suggest all is not well at the lending and borrowing platform.<\/p>\n<h2>What's the FUD surrounding Celsius Network?<\/h2>\n<p>Some <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/celsius-ceo-blames-malicious-actors-for-troubles-at-the-firm\/\">Celsius users<\/a> recently complained about poor treatment at the hands of the company. In these cases, the issue boils down to Celsius liquidating CEL holdings \u2014 held as loan collateral \u2014 amid the recent market-wide drawdown.<\/p>\n<p>Cory Klippsten, CEO of Bitcoin savings platform Swan, has been tweeting about developments at Celsius. On May 31, he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/coryklippsten\/status\/1531761713174892546\">retweeted<\/a> a post from @MrMasternode, who spoke of losing $500,000 through the liquidation of his loan collateral. He is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrMasternode\/status\/1531366491957784576\">waiting<\/a> on the outcome of a review to reverse the liquidation.<\/p>\n<p>Without quantifying the number of similar cases encountered, Klippsten said he &#8220;could go on and on and on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I could go on and on and on.  That\u2019s not even all of page one. Based on recent experiences, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CryptoCurrency\/comments\/v29t59\/celsius_is_insolvent_please_get_your_funds_out_now\/\">one Redditor<\/a> alleges the platform is insolvent and warns other users to remove their funds.<\/p>\n<p>Several points were made in the post, but at the top of the list was a claim that withdrawals are delayed and &#8220;annoying measures&#8221; are in place to limit withdrawals.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Delayed withdrawals, or very annoying measures put in place for withdrawls. Classic hallmark of an insolvent or fraudulent operation.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The annoying measure is &#8220;HODL Mode,&#8221; which is a feature that prevents withdrawals. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bigshortbets\/status\/1531614097900457984\">@bigshortbets<\/a> assumed this was implemented to stop a run on Celsius.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Celsius Network implements &quot;HODL Mode&quot; to prevent withdrawals from the platform.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Celsius?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Celsius<\/a> recently lost its auditor and is now &quot;preventing&quot; a bank run by taking partial control over people&#39;s assets.<\/p>\n<p>Clock is ticking&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/bigshortbets?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#bigshortbets<\/a>\ud83d\udc0b <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DKvmyk6sfL\">pic.twitter.com\/DKvmyk6sfL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; bigshortbets (@bigshortbets) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bigshortbets\/status\/1531614097900457984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 31, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Is this all blown out of proportion?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.celsius.network\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360007608077-What-is-the-HODL-Mode-\">Hodl Mode<\/a> was designed as a security feature for users not planning to withdraw or transfer for extended periods. The feature requires <a href=\"https:\/\/support.celsius.network\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360007608057-How-can-I-activate-HODL-mode-\">voluntary activation<\/a> by the user.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;HODL Mode is a security feature that gives you the ability to temporarily disable outgoing transactions from your Celsius account.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CryptoCurrency\/comments\/v29t59\/celsius_is_insolvent_please_get_your_funds_out_now\/\">some users<\/a> claim Hodl Mode was activated without their permission, leading to unexpected delays in withdrawing funds.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Agreed but there have been issues where HODL mode was turned on without the account owners <em>[sic]<\/em> permission.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hodl Mode, in combination with several other red flags, has raised suspicions over Celsius as a viable and legitimate platform.<\/p>\n<p>Recent red flags that have come to light include former Celsius CFO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b379157c-93ae-4e28-8bf0-9f777811efd3\">Yaron Shalem<\/a> being detained under accusations of cryptocurrency fraud. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-05-27\/terra-s-woes-prompted-in-part-by-celsius-activities-nansen-says?cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&utm_content=business&utm_source=twitter\">Celsius's role<\/a> in the UST death spiral following the withdrawal of 500 million UST from the Anchor Protocol.<\/p>\n<p>On that, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mikojava\/status\/1530686735058755589\">Miko Matsumura<\/a> said Celsius FUDers contradict themselves by saying the firm isn't looking out for users, even though its timely Anchor withdrawal did just that.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">People FUDding <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CelsiusNetwork?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CelsiusNetwork<\/a> cant have it both ways. They cant say that Celsius doesnt protect their customers and they cant say that it&#39;s insolvent.
