According to available information, the beacon chain will merge with Ropsten testnet on June 8.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udce3 Ropsten Merge Announcement \ud83d\udce3<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum&#39;s longest lived PoW testnet is moving to Proof of Stake! They share many similarities, including the rampant gas fee fluctuations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the similarities, a successful merge of the Ropsten testnet and its beacon chain would be a good indication of what would happen with the mainnet transition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to another Ethereum developer Preston Van Loon, the success of the Ropsten testnet merge <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-dev-reveals-date-for-merge-testnet\/\">would<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be a massive milestone for Ethereum.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ropsten testnet is getting merged on June 8! <\/p>\n<p>Merging Ropsten is a huge testing milestone towards Ethereum&#39;s mainnet merge later this year.  \ud83c\udf89 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X7eLIMA72g\">https:\/\/t.co\/X7eLIMA72g<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; prestonvanloon.eth (@preston_vanloon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/preston_vanloon\/status\/1526934478916132865?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Validators have produced several blocks on the testnet since the launch of the beacon chain. Data on the <a href=\"https:\/\/beaconchain.ropsten.ethdevops.io\/epochs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beacon chain scanner<\/span><\/a> shows that the testnet is currently on its 160th epoch, and the participation rate is also very high.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In more recent epochs, the average voting participation has increased from 70% to around 89%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Ropsten testnet merge is dependent on two conditions<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beiko said there are two conditions before the Ropsten testnet can merge with its beacon chain. The first condition is for the beacon chain to activate the Bellatrix upgrade scheduled for June 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For The Merge to happen, we now need two things on Ropsten. First, its beacon chain must activate the Bellatrix upgrade, scheduled for June 2. This is the &#8220;Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) will be chosen to trigger the transition.&#8221; Beiko added that this would be decided between June 2 and 3 so that the transition could be seamless.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A few noteworthy things:  <\/p>\n<p>1\ufe0f\u20e3 Post-merge, if you ran a node\/validator on the beacon chain, you now *must* also run an execution client. While no one has been able to give a specific date of when it will happen, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/vitalik-buterin\/\">Vitalik Buterin<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has predicted that it could happen between September and October of this year, while some developers think it would happen by August.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Ethereum beacon chain experienced a 7-block deep reorg ~2.5h ago. This shows that the current attestation strategy of nodes should be reconsidered to hopefully result in a more stable chain!
