{"id":239948,"date":"2022-05-27T22:40:18","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T21:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=239948"},"modified":"2022-05-27T21:21:39","modified_gmt":"2022-05-27T20:21:39","slug":"coinbase-top-executives-reportedly-made-over-1b-via-stock-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-top-executives-reportedly-made-over-1b-via-stock-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase top executives reportedly made over $1B via stock sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new <em>Wall Street Journal <\/em><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/amp\/articles\/coinbase-leaders-net-1-2-billion-in-share-sales-11653606214\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has revealed that four top officials of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> have cumulatively made over $1 billion by selling the company shares since the exchange went public last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the report, the officials involved in the act include co-founders <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/brian-armstrong\/\">Brian Armstrong<\/a> and Fred Ehrsam, Chief Operating Officer Emilie Choi, and Chief Product Officer Surojit Chatterjee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report noted that Fred Ehrsam had made the highest sales with \u201cnearly half a billion dollars in stock sales\u201d while others like Armstrong have sold shares worth $292 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other executives, Choi and Chatterjee, have sold $226 million and $110 million worth of shares each.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shares were said to have been sold at varying times of the market, with some selling when the stock was trading for as high as $422 and some at $189.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <em>WSJ<\/em>, a Coinbase spokesperson reportedly said\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;These Coinbase executives maintain large positions in the company, reflecting their commitment to our long-term opportunities.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><b>Coinbase\u2019s recent stock performance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The price performance of the only public listed crypto exchange has not been overly encouraging in recent times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its <a href=\"https:\/\/s27.q4cdn.com\/397450999\/files\/doc_financials\/2022\/q1\/Coinbase-Q122-Shareholder-Letter.pdf\">earnings call<\/a> from the first three months of 2022 (Q1 2022)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the firm revealed that its revenue was dropping, and its user base was also reducing. This reduction has prompted some of the firm\u2019s recent actions as it seeks to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-launches-nft-marketplace-with-personalization-feature\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">widen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its horizon into new markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of press time, Coinbase stock is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/investor.coinbase.com\/stock-information\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trading<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for $74.69, which is over 70% lower than its year-to-date (YTD) metric.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, that has not stopped the exchange from getting into the list of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/fortune500\/2022\/search\/?revchange=desc\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortune 500<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
