{"id":234510,"date":"2022-04-26T19:00:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T18:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=234510"},"modified":"2022-04-26T14:31:46","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T13:31:46","slug":"nike-launches-first-metaverse-kicks-in-partnership-with-rtfkt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/nike-launches-first-metaverse-kicks-in-partnership-with-rtfkt\/","title":{"rendered":"Nike launches first metaverse kicks in partnership with RTFKT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sports and fashion giant Nike has released its first CryptoKicks on Ethereum in partnership with RTFKT studios, the NFT company it <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/nike-joins-the-metaverse-ecosystem-with-rtfkt-acquisition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bought<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sneakers are now selling for around 2.5 ETH ($7,500) to 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">ETH<\/a> ($9000), according to a <em>CNET <\/em><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/personal-finance\/crypto\/nikes-nft-sneakers-for-the-metaverse-are-selling-for-8k\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Nike\u2019s first metaverse sneakers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shoes, known as Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks, are a collection of 20,000 non-fungible tokens designed for use in the metaverse. People who have avatars in the metaverse can wear them in the virtual space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, it\u2019s also possible to change the look of the shoes by using the \u201cSkin Vials\u201d collectible, which goes for 0.8 ETH ($2,500) at least. The skin rarity of each vial differs, and some of the rarest skins go for higher prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One CryptoKick with a rare skin vial sold for 45 ETH ($133,000), while the rarest of the collection, the Alien vial, sold for 150 ETH ($449,500). RTFKT also stated that it\u2019d be possible to evolve the skins by completing certain online quests. There are no details on the quests yet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RTFKT announced the launch via a tweet but didn\u2019t provide additional information on if the NFT owners would also get a physical pair of the shoes. In February, holders of CloneX got virtual boxes of MNLTH collectibles airdropped for free. These boxes have now been revealed to contain CryptoKicks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Fashion companies push rivalries into the metaverse<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nike isn\u2019t the only sneakers company betting on the metaverse. Its close competitor, Adidas, released a collection of 30,000 NFTs in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/adidas-makes-bored-ape-yacht-club-nft-its-twitter-display-whats-with-the-endorsements\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">partnership<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Bored Apes in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NFT collection called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/opensea.io\/assets\/0x28472a58a490c5e09a238847f66a68a47cc76f0f\/0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Into the Metaverse<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is currently on sale on OpenSea with a floor price of $1.938 ETH ($5,813). In its case, the owner of the NFT will get both virtual and real-life clothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rivalry between the two companies has also seen both invest in virtual spaces. Nike <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.nike.com\/news\/five-things-to-know-roblox\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">owns<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a virtual store on Roblox, while Adidas recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledgerinsights.com\/adidas-joins-the-nft-world-partnering-with-bored-ape-the-sandbox-coinbase\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bought land<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in gaming-oriented Sandbox.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both companies are examples of the widespread interest in the metaverse in the fashion and clothing industry.
