The exploit resulted in over 11,500 Ethereum (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ETH<\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> becoming inaccessible to the developer team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project went live on April 22 using a Dutch auction and opened at 3.5 ETH, and 5,495 NFTs out of the total 15,000 NFTs in the collection were put up for sale. The smart contract for the auction was programmed to refund everyone that underbid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>$34 million locked forever<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to NFT developer 0xInuarashi, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/address\/0xf42c318dbfbaab0eee040279c6a2588fa01a961d\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smart contract<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was programmed to refund bidders before the team could withdraw funds. However, bugs in the code introduced vulnerabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/A9lobVZC3p\">https:\/\/t.co\/A9lobVZC3p<\/a><br \/>34 Million USD gone. Just like that. Locked in the contract forever.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people put light on the grieving which locked processRefunds() for a bit, that was the first exploit.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily that was unlocked, but funds are still locked forever. While the number of actual bids was more than this, the problem came from the fact that several buyers were using the same bid for multiple mints.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result is that there are fewer bids than the total number of NFTs available for auction. Due to this reason, over $34 million in proceeds in the smart contract are locked forever and can\u2019t be withdrawn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Various developers warned AkuDreams'\u00a0 about the vulnerability before the project went live, but the team did not heed the warnings.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The AkuDreams team pretended that this was a feature, not an exploit, when multiple developers raised concerns prior to mint. In addition, the team released an update stating that the minting contract had been rewritten and audited.
