With its new license, clients can now trade, deposit, withdraw and invest in digital assets using dirhams \u2014 the UAE\u2019s national fiat currency.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Abu Dhabi attracts other top crypto exchanges\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kraken is joining a growing list of crypto exchanges that have secured licensing in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Binance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recently secured an in-principle <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-gets-in-principle-approval-to-operate-in-abu-dhabi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approval<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the ADGM to operate as a broker-dealer for digital assets. The exchange also has a license to operate in Dubai.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ftx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FTX<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has secured a virtual assets service provider (VASP) license to operate in Dubai in March. The company has said it will set up regional headquarters in the emirate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other exchanges such as BitOasis, Crypto.com, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bybit\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bybit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/crypto-com-bybit-to-set-up-shop-in-dubai\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">secured approval<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to expand into the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>UAE\u2019s pro-crypto stance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UAE's pro-crypto policies have made it one of the biggest markets in the Middle East. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per data from Chainalysis, the country\u2019s residents, as of 2021, had a transaction volume of around $26 billion, which is just behind that of Turkey and Lebanon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The country has also embraced a pro-regulation status to bring more clarity to the space. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dhaher said in the interview with Bloomberg News that UAE was adopting a progressive approach toward the nascent industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Part of that approach is <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/dubai-world-trade-centre-is-becoming-a-crypto-hub-will-rollout-a-new-world-class-regulatory-framework\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nationwide crypto licensing<\/span><\/a> regulation, which means that exchanges can set up business in other areas besides Dubai and Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with national licensing law, each region could still have control over the operations of crypto businesses within its zone.
