{"id":230496,"date":"2022-04-07T17:00:39","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T16:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=230496"},"modified":"2022-04-07T22:05:11","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T21:05:11","slug":"opensea-launches-solana-nft-initial-beta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/opensea-launches-solana-nft-initial-beta\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenSea launches Solana NFT initial beta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After weeks of rumors and speculations, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/opensea\/\">OpenSea<\/a> \u2014 the world's biggest NFT marketplace \u2014 finally gave users access to buy and sell <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">Solana<\/a> NFTs as part of an initial beta launched on April 7.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The moment you\u2019ve been waiting for\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/solana?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Solana<\/a> is officially on OpenSea \u2013 starting today, with our initial beta!<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VjhqeGHZxc\">https:\/\/t.co\/VjhqeGHZxc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; OpenSea (@opensea) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1511827185195118596?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Despite the much-anticipated launch, trading volume numbers have been dipping for OpenSea and other NFT platforms in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<h2>OpenSea vs. Magic Eden<\/h2>\n<p>Being the number one <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a>-based NFT marketplace, OpenSea has been on a roll in terms of growth and development, introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/opensea-taps-moonpay-to-enable-nft-purchases-via-bank-cards\/\">new features<\/a> regularly. However, the emergence of alternative platforms and its recent spate of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/user-sues-opensea-for-1m-after-losing-his-bored-ape-nft-in-phishing-attack\">hacks and vulnerabilities<\/a> has led to questions about the quality of its security and safety measures.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Magic Eden is considered the number one Solana NFT marketplace and handles roughly 90% of all Solana NFT sales. However, it's likely that trading volume will begin to tilt toward OpenSea as time goes on, considering its massive popularity.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/dappradar.com\/nft\/marketplaces\">data<\/a> from DappRadar, OpenSea\u2019s total trading volume dropped by around 3% within the last 24 hours, while Magic Eden's is down 24%. At the time of writing, it has been roughly 12 hours since the Solana beta was launched on OpenSea.<\/p>\n<p>Magic Eden <a href=\"https:\/\/magiceden.io\/stats\/marketplaces?t=1d\">processed<\/a> almost 25,000 Solana NFT transactions in the last 24 hours despite the drop, while OpenSea has processed roughly 500 such transactions since the beta's launch.<\/p>\n<h2>NFT market decline continues<\/h2>\n<p>NFT sales in recent weeks have been a far cry from when the space saw record trading volumes at the start of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/defi-slowly-recovers-while-nft-fever-abates-february-monthly-report\/\">February<\/a>, the number of unique NFT buyers dropped below 800,000 for the first time since October 2021, as interest in NFTs waned, according to Google Search metrics.\u00a0By the end of March, overall NFT trading volume dropped to record lows, marking a steep fall for the much-heralded space.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/dappradar.com\/nft\/marketplaces\">DappRadar<\/a>,\u00a0 OpenSea\u2019s trading volume has declined by 67% since the beginning of March, while LooksRare and Magic Eden saw an 84% and 85% fall in trading volume, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The number of unique buyers in March was around 630,000, showing that it would take a significant turn of events for the space to return to its previous highs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After weeks of rumors and speculations, OpenSea \u2014 the world&#8217;s biggest NFT marketplace \u2014 finally gave users access to buy and sell Solana NFTs as part of an initial beta launched on April 7.
