It's already the 7th largest DEX by TVL, currently behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footprint.network\/guest\/chart\/trader-joe-tvl-trend-fp-4a3d7eca-b0f8-4e59-9770-eaf2cfb56568?channel=u-apcVFj\">Trader Joe<\/a> and just ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footprint.network\/guest\/chart\/osmosis-daily-tvl-fp-236de0fa-a31b-4132-9492-1fca36b30bbd?channel=u-apcVFj\">Osmosis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_220393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220393\" style=\"width: 990px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-220393 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2-12.png\" alt=\"DEX TVL\" width=\"990\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2-12.png 990w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2-12-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2-12-768x363.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-220393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DEX TVL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>What is VVS Finance?<\/h2>\n<p>VVS Finance is a DEX that provides the usual DeFi capabilities: swaps, liquidity pools, and staking.<\/p>\n<p>It stands for Very, Very Simple Finance, making its UVP clear\u2014the platform aims to simplify DeFi. It does this through gamification and an easy-to-use interface.<\/p>\n<p>It also checks many of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footprint.network\/article\/5-charts-to-uncover-your-next-long-term-de-fi-investment-fp-618111ac-d2a82000-29a48da1\">the boxes Footprint recommends<\/a> you look at when assessing the health of a crypto project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Substantial initial market cap<\/strong>: VVS Finance's market cap jumped from $20 million to $170 million in the first couple of months since its launch and has largely reflected the general market trend since then.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Reasonable trading volume<\/strong>: VVS Finance's trading volume has mostly remained between 5% and 20% of its market cap.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Price action<\/strong>: The price action of the protocol's token VVS is about as volatile as you would expect from a new DEX project and a new chain, but with no suspicious pumps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So why has the first AMM on Cronos and a potential contender to be the next SushiSwap or PancakeSwap attracted so much controversy recently?<\/p>\n<h2>VVS Finance's Tokenomics Are Questionable<\/h2>\n<p>VVS's total circulating supply is 2.2 trillion, and its total supply is over 36 trillion, which will increase to 100 trillion over ten years through its emissions schedule.<\/p>\n<p>For comparison, here are the leading DEX tokens' circulating supply figures (rounded to a million).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SushiSwap<\/strong>: 127 million SUSHI<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uniswap<\/strong>: 632 million UNI<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pancakeswap<\/strong>: 268 million CAKE<\/li>\n<li><strong>Balancer<\/strong>: 7 million BAL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the only major DEX token that is so inflationary (note that CAKE has no hard cap but has deflationary mechanisms to keep the supply under control), VVS Finance's tokenomics model is an outlier.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some reasonable criticism from one self-proclaimed holder, dsx02, on Reddit:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cI held both VVS and TONIC but sold both upon looking at the Tokenomics, they're really bad 100 Trillion supply of VVS and 500 Trillion of TONIC, to put that in perspective it's 1000x more VVS than there is DOGE and DOGE is already a wildly inflated coin whose price suffers tremendously for it\u2026 and they plan to emit HALF (50 trillion) in 2022 alone, so yeah i [sic] really don't see how it's gonna rise in value at all unless you just don't believe in inflation at all.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But does VVS's incredibly high token supply matter to its long-term potential?<\/p>\n<p>While 100 trillion is enormous, other tokens have significantly higher, or even unlimited, supplies, including Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>Previously mentioned CAKE has an unlimited total supply.<\/p>\n<p>So, the total supply is not the key metric of a project's quality, advantages, or disadvantages. What is important is how they will be distributed\u2014according to which business model.
