{"id":212353,"date":"2022-01-20T10:45:57","date_gmt":"2022-01-20T10:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=212353"},"modified":"2022-01-20T09:58:22","modified_gmt":"2022-01-20T09:58:22","slug":"google-pay-hires-former-paypal-executive-to-expand-crypto-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/google-pay-hires-former-paypal-executive-to-expand-crypto-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Pay hires former PayPal executive to expand crypto services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-01-19\/google-hires-paypal-vet-to-reset-strategy-after-banking-retreat\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloomberg<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Google Pay, one of the leading digital wallets for payments, has hired former Paypal executive Arnold Goldberg, in a bid to expand and accelerate its crypto operations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goldberg will be responsible for heading Google's payment division to expand the firm's financial service domain which also includes cryptocurrency-related services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Google hires ex PayPal executive to bolster crypto services<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Bloomberg, the recruitment of Goldberg is a part of the company's &#8220;broader strategy&#8221; to include a wider range of financial services including cryptocurrencies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commenting on the growing demand for cryptocurrency, Google's president of commerce Bill Ready stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Crypto is something we pay a lot of attention to. As user demand and merchant demand evolves, we\u2019ll evolve with it.&#8221; Ready told Bloomberg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the process, Google will be paying more attention to making its payment services robust by being &#8220;a comprehensive digital wallet&#8221; that includes digital tickets, airline passes, and vaccine passports. Google is also working on integrating more payment features in its wallet within search and its shopping service, to help users see &#8220;the entire array of financial services out there.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arnold Goldberg, who will be heading Google's payment division previously worked with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/paypal-users-can-now-buy-100000-worth-of-bitcoin-ethereum-litecoin-and-bitcoin-cash-weekly\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PayPal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a chief architect and general manager of the firm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google has lately been engaging itself with various crypto companies such as Bitpay and crypto exchange <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbases-crypto-apple-google-payment\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coinbase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Bill Ready further stated that the company is looking forward to more associations like these in the future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April 2021, Google partnered with crypto exchange <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemini.com\/blog\/gemini-now-supports-apple-pay-and-google-pay\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gemini<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to assist users in purchasing Bitcoin through google pay using fiat currency via debit or credit cards.
