The way TVL works, it can be increased in two manners: either users pump additional tokens into the platform or the price of already locked assets grows.<\/p>\n<p>At the same, Osmosis has also set a new personal record in terms of daily trading volume, reaching $95.5 million in 24 hours, while its governance token OSMO has hit a new all-time high of <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/osmosis\/\">$7.84<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Osmosis?<\/h2>\n<p>Osmosis is an automated market maker\u2014akin to Ethereum\u2019s Uniswap or Binance Smart Chain\u2019s PancakeSwap\u2014that enables trading (swapping) of various tokens via user-provided liquidity pools. In other words, the platform helps to facilitate trading without any centralized intermediaries.<\/p>\n<p>The DEX is based on its own proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain protocol which, in turn, was developed using the Tendermint engine\u2014a core component of the Cosmos ecosystem. Osmosis also allows other networks to interconnect via the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (IBC).<\/p>\n<p>In its turn, TVL is a metric that represents the current combined price of all tokens that are locked on any given platform. When it comes to PoS DEXs, it usually comprises assets that users choose to either stake (and assist in maintaining the network) or lock up in liquidity pools (to help facilitate trading).<\/p>\n<h2>Have your stake and pool it too<\/h2>\n<p>Stakers and liquidity providers receive passive yields on their holdings and usually have to choose between one of those two options\u2014but that\u2019s not the case with Osmosis.<\/p>\n<p>This is because the DEX pioneered the so-called \u201csuperfluid staking\u201d feature that allows holders of OSMO to stake and provide liquidity simultaneously and without any network trade-offs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Superfluid<\/p>\n<p>Osmosis is all about fluids and LIQUIDity \u2697\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Also, the name is inspired by this foundational piece that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/delitzer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@delitzer<\/a> wrote a few years ago<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BLthd6hNUs\">https:\/\/t.co\/BLthd6hNUs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sunny Aggarwal \ud83e\uddea (@sunnya97) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sunnya97\/status\/1413891647071531015?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 10, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Notably, the DEX's rapid growth comes on the heels of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/osmosis-closes-21m-token-sale-to-make-interchain-defi-go-superfluid-301409451.html\">$21 million token sale<\/a> that the Osmosis Foundation closed on October 21.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOsmosis is our first AMM investment outside of the Ethereum ecosystem,\u201d noted Charlie Noyes, investment partner at Paradigm, at the time.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe launch of IBC, Cosmos\u2019 cross-chain interoperability protocol, kicked off a Cambrian explosion of developer activity and experimentation.
