The decentralized exchange confirmed this in a tweet where it revealed that \u201cdue to a major AWS outage, dYdX exchange is currently down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Due to a major AWS outage, dYdX exchange is currently down. We are experiencing greater latency across services and impaired functionality with endpoints not working and the website not loading. <\/p>\n<p>For the most up to date status updates, subscribe to: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EvjpZdRyby\">https:\/\/t.co\/EvjpZdRyby<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; dYdX \ud83e\udd94 (@dydxprotocol) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dydxprotocol\/status\/1468293558360805381?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The above wouldn\u2019t have been an issue if the exchange was just another exchange or another website running on the AWS. However, being a project that lays claim to being decentralized, it raises a thousand and one questions about the level of its decentralization.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on this, the exchange stated that some parts of its operations still rely on centralized services of firms like AWS. Though it noted that its goal is to become fully decentralized so as to avoid a repeat of this scenario.<\/p>\n<p>While the exchange failed to reveal its operations that are currently centralized, a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.dydx.exchange\/#general\">DEX note<\/a> reveals that it uses a \u201ccentralized order book\u201d to match buying and selling orders.<\/p>\n<h2>Other crypto projects that suffered from the outage<\/h2>\n<p>It is worth noting that dYdX is not the only crypto-related project running on Amazon Web Servers, centralized crypto exchanges like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance-us\/\">Binance.US<\/a> were also one of the victims of the outage as users gave scathing remarks about their dependence on a centralized intermediary like AWS.<\/p>\n<p>One Coinbase user wrote that \u201cImagine if a bank told you that you couldn't access your money.
