According to him, Fidelity \u201cwill easily be the biggest asset manager to date with a Bitcoin ETF.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SEMI-SHOCK: Fidelity launching a spot bitcoin ETF in Canada this week. Will easily be the biggest asset manager to date with a bitcoin ETF. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H2XJRBY3O6\">pic.twitter.com\/H2XJRBY3O6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Eric Balchunas (@EricBalchunas) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricBalchunas\/status\/1465809288245485570?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 30, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Fidelity Advantage Bitcoin ETF, with a ticker FBTC, will be actively managed. The fund will obtain Bitcoin directly, as opposed to acquiring it through a derivative instrument, like futures-based ETFs do.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the SEC has approved three Bitcoin futures ETFs \u2013 from Valkyrie, ProShares and VanEck, but has been reluctant to greenlight a pure-play Bitcoin ETF.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC recently <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/heres-why-the-sec-rejected-the-much-anticipated-vaneck-bitcoin-spot-etf\/\">rejected<\/a> VanEck\u2019s spot Bitcoin ETF application, stating concerns about the product's volatile nature, unconvinced in the fund's ability to prevent fraudulent trading and protect investors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis should be embarrassing for the SEC that one of America's biggest, most storied names in investing is forced to go up North to serve its clients,\u201d noted Balchunas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He argued that Canada was historically ahead of the US in regards to innovative ETFs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey gonna have like three years head start,\u201d predicted the analyst, since Canada, compared to the US, has been more welcoming of Bitcoin in TradFi.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Waiting for the SEC<\/h2>\n<p>Following the SEC rejecting VanEck\u2019s bid for a spot ETF, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/grayscale-investments\/\">Grayscale Investments<\/a> attorneys issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/comments\/sr-nysearca-2021-90\/srnysearca202190-9410842-262990.pdf\">letter<\/a> to the agency, claiming its decision violates the Administrative Protections Act (APA).<\/p>\n<p>Although the SEC\u2019s approval of futures ETFs, signaled that the regulator is warming up to crypto as an investable asset class, the agency\u2019s position on spot ETFs quashed hopes.<\/p>\n<p>According to Grayscale, \u201cthe Commission\u2019s standard for approving the listing of spot Bitcoin ETFs is arbitrary and, in practice, impossible to meet.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Withholding approvals for Bitcoin spot ETFs only shows the SEC\u2019s baseless & wildly inconsistent approach to regulating crypto. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qnKkVoeQ3t\">https:\/\/t.co\/qnKkVoeQ3t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tom Emmer (@RepTomEmmer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepTomEmmer\/status\/1465746905787518978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 30, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithholding approvals for Bitcoin spot ETFs only shows the SEC\u2019s baseless & wildly inconsistent approach to regulating crypto,\u201d Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer commented on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Together with Congressman Darren Soto, Emmer <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/us-legislators-ask-sec-to-approve-a-bitcoin-spot-etf\/\">questioned<\/a> the SEC\u2019s discriminating logic against Bitcoin spot ETFs, arguing that futures ETFs are \u201cpotentially\u201d more volatile, as they may impose more fees on investors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fidelity Investments will be launching its spot Bitcoin ETF in Canada this week, according to Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF Analysts at Bloomberg, who broke the news on Twitter.
