{"id":200104,"date":"2021-09-29T08:00:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T07:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=200104"},"modified":"2021-09-29T09:17:47","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T08:17:47","slug":"sec-filings-show-morgan-stanley-has-doubled-its-bitcoin-btc-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-filings-show-morgan-stanley-has-doubled-its-bitcoin-btc-position\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC filings show Morgan Stanley has doubled its Bitcoin (BTC) position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After its previous hostility towards Bitcoin and other crypto assets, Morgan Stanley, a leading investment bank, has increased its exposure to the leading digital assets per its recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/860720\/000175272421208580\/NPORT_MGAZ_6853446861.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the Securities and and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 27.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Morgan Stanley Europe Opportunity Fund purchases more GBTC shares<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the filing, the multinational bank has bought more shares of the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), doubling its holdings by more than 105 percent since its previous purchase in April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The filing revealed that Morgan Stanley Europe Opportunity Fund, one of the funds of the company renowned for its investment in emerging companies in Europe, now owns over 58,000 shares of GBTC as of July 31.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, GBTC\u2019s price was exchanging hands for $34.28 then. This means that the bank spent around $2 million on its new Bitcoin exposure purchase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morgan Stanley had earlier purchased 28,298 shares of GBTC in its first exposure to the industry. Then, the value of the shares stood at $1.3 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll recall that the bank had revealed its intention to add Bitcoin exposure to 12 of its investment funds through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/morgan-stanley-exposed-to-26-5-btc-via-grayscale-bitcoin-trust\/amp\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grayscale<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and cash-settled futures. One of such funds is the Europe Opportunity Fund that looks to invest in \u201cestablished and emerging\u201d Europe-based companies that could be termed as \u201cundervalued.\u201d This way, the fund looks to maximize profits by investing in these firms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another bank fund, Insight Fund, per a previous <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/morgan-stanley-holds-over-36-million-worth-of-bitcoin-btc-via-grayscale\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cryptoslate, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">holds 928,051 shares of GBTC which means it has exposure to as much as 870 units of BTC that is worth $36.1 million worth of GBTC shares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from investing in GBTC, the bank has also looked to expand its works in the crypto space which has led it into leading a $48 million investment round in Securitize, a blockchain tokenization firm that enjoys the backing of Coinbase.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After its previous hostility towards Bitcoin and other crypto assets, Morgan Stanley, a leading investment bank, has increased its exposure to the leading digital assets per its recent filings with the Securities and and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 27.
