However, according to the grocer company, none of these claims is right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs a leading eCommerce store, we are committed to bringing innovations to the online shopping experience. By integrating Litecoin, we will enable shoppers to experience a very smooth checkout experience with near-instant transaction confirmation and near-zero fees regardless of where in the world they are\u2026 Starting October 1st, all eCommerce stores will have implemented a &#8216;Pay with Litecoin Option,\u201d the said fake release read in part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, the said press release had said Litecoin Founder Charlie Lee had expressed excitement and enthusiasm about the development.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A number of reputable media houses had cited the release in their first reports announcing the partnership. Mainstream media houses like <em>Reuters<\/em> and <\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/09\/13\/walmart-to-accept-payments-with-cryptocurrencies-using-litecoin.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CNBC<\/span><\/a> <\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have, however, updated their stories after confirming that their source was false.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Analysts say it is a \u201cpump and dump\u201d<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some analysts have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nickbilton\/status\/1437420806317830151?s=21\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posited<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that what was seen as an example of a massive pump and dump scheme and could lead to the heavy regulation of the crypto industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Director of news at <em>The Block<\/em>, Frank Chaparro, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/fintechfrank\/status\/1437424481010655246?s=21\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the \u201cpump and dump scheme\u201d could draw reactions from the authorities. \u201cWouldn\u2019t be surprised if this pump and dump scheme &#8211; which tricked basically everyone &#8211; draws the further ire of Gary Gensler and co.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though the press release has now been taken down, a closer look at it would reveal that the email domain name was registered less than a month ago, also, it does not link to any official site of the e-commerce company. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from that, the press release does not contain the usual financial safe harbor information that Walmart tends to use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As of press time, Litecoin is <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/currencies\/litecoin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trading around<\/span><\/a> $180 after it had witnessed a sharp rise to $233 after the news broke.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Against earlier trending reports that Walmart, the leading retailer and one of the biggest eCommerce companies in the world has partnered with Litecoin, a spokesperson for the company has come out to deny the press release.
